Can anyone tell me what ‘overhangs’ are please, I failed my CPC module 4 because of this and the examiner told my instructor who still doesn’t really know what overhangs are.
The only thing I can think of is when the lorry is laden and when you turn corners it creates overswing with the back of the trailor.
What was the CPC question in relation to overhang ? I would assume it is as Sam says on a car transporter and also the rear of a cat C vehicle from the rear wheels to the back of the truck. ■■
The question is along the lines of: Show me where the projections and overhangs are on this vehicle and explain the precautions you would take with regard to them. The answer is simple: the bodywork from the centre of the rear axle towards the back of the vehicle, the same from the front axle (if there is any overhang) and the projections are the mirrors. They want to hear about the dangers of rear end swing when turning and the same for the front. Also the dangers of ripping your mirrors off in tight spaces.
Frankly, if your instructor doesn’t know the answer to a very simple question, I’d be changing trainer with great speed.
All the best next time, Pete
When answering explain both projections (mirrors) and overhangs (rear axle backwards) may collide with pedestrians, street furniture (road signs in English) and other vehciles. Also for Part B of this question expalin that extensive use of mirrors when turning will correctly monitor the rear end sweep (as they put it)
This is a Mod 4 question you should hope you get as it is one of basic ones.
I agree with Peter that any trainer should know this one. Perhaps, in his defence his answer was misunderstood.
