Printouts and how long can you keep working

Ok let’s see where this one goes. latest driver buzz coming out of a big company:

If you do a printout for whatever reason do you need to keep the printout for 28 days? (because this then becomes a legal document)…even if you were just checking your driving hours etc.

WTD…you start work at 0600 have a 15 min break at 0900…for wtd can you then work another six hours or just until 1215…(this assmes that you haven’t driven for 4.5 hours)

like I said this is coming from a big outfit and the drivers have all got different ideas, confused dot com YES

No you don’t necessarily need to keep it, a printout only needs to be kept if it’s taken for the purpose of writing manual entries on it.

But why do a printout to check your driving hours when it can just as easily be seen on the display.

If you have a 15 minute break at 09:00 finishing at 09:15 you can continue to working until 15:15 before needing another break for the 6 hour rule (6 hours working time from the end of the last break).

fair point about the printout, just using it as an example…tks for the reply

A required printout must be treated the same way a tacho chart is, kept for the required period, handed in, kept for the required period. A printout for any other needless reason such as checking hours or you wonder what happens if you press this button has less use than toilet paper and can be binned.
