France previously offered to provide facilities at Calais so possible migrants can be assessed before they cross the Channel…
The UK refused at the time. I don’t know if the same offer has been made to the current Gov but I would think it would be a good idea to go down that route.
In brief:
Normally asylum application can only be made after entry into a country.
Apply on Calais beach to UK officials. All details taken and decision made while still in France. If successful, entry by safe means taking the people traffickers out of it.
If unsuccessful and an illegal entry is made then as soon as entrant is picked up, finger prints etc can be taken, and if previously refused they can be fast tracked for deportation.

The reason you cannot is because the UK offers vary similar things to other EU countries.
We have had this before on another thread when I went put up links, y’know those things that lead to genuine information ,but you tell us you can’t be arsed to follow, links that show the UK and France offer similar levels of support to asylum seekers.
And what do you do? Put up YTs of “citizen reporters” who witter on about tens of thousands of £ in sweets for asylum hostels, you talk of stupid amounts of money (was it £33k) for seekers, but with nowt to back up the claims.
That it is repeated all the time that the UK is a soft touch does not make it fact.
so as they are on a skeleton staff there must of been a bigger staff when it was used as a hotel as we know it jim. so all those poor souls that arent on the skeleton staff have lost their jobs.

hogwash. they can apply for legal visas from any country in the world. All they need to demonstrate is they have a support network once they get here which according to you would be easy as they have friends and family here. The uk is the easiest country in the world to get a visa for.

Newsflash, no-one is fleeing war zones. If they were they would be entering by legal methods with documents in tact ala the Ukrainian refugees that we gladly welcome with open arms. The reality is they enter illegally on dinghy’s with no documents or ID because they know once here they will never leave. The reason is the incentives that they receive, again there is no deterrent.
Think logically, if they were really escaping war and persecution why would they cross an entire continent through god knows how may “safe” countries to arrive at Calais to then risk their life all over again by jumping in a dinghy and playing Russian roulette with the English channel?

And I will repeat that money comes out of the UK Foreign Aid budget. If we had zero asylum seekers then less money would be spent on them in the UK and more money would be sent abroad instead. The allocation of monies for any year remains unaltered.
