dont forget the barns the farm house the tractor the combine etc etc etc probably another 1.5 - 2 million
To get away from the super rich ones…
The 2 or 3 guys I know are rich in assets, as in the value of the farm that has increased in value over the generations of the family who own it, but not so much anything else.
I aint saying they are paupers by any means, but a lot of the land they work is on a long term rental/lease scheme.
The tractors aint the most modern top of the range gear either, and one of the lads I know runs around in a 15 yr old Range Rover, and never takes a holiday.
As I said they aint all mega rich
‘Gentleman farmer squires of the estate’.
I showed the farmhouse separately earlier.
Under the new rules £2m of farmland free of all let from a couple.
£650k of houses machinery etc IHT free from a couple.
Will many farmers with 20Ha actually own their own big harvester? Big investment for a half day of work per year!
As for farming franglais you do not have a clue with regard to the practical side of day to day work on a farm a bit like the Labour Party. I don’t mean gentleman farmers but those who actually graft themselves. It’s early morning start and can be late night finish 7days a week all year and no overtime in fact a lot of farmers don’t even take a wage or a holiday, livestock needs daily feeding which can be costly if bought in and vet bills have to be paid, . Arable farms are dependent on the weather*, a lot farms don’t have expensive machinery and depend on contractors to do tilling and combining etc. the harvesting time of different crops are totally controlled by weather conditions. Farmers who do have their own machinery(six figure sums for tractors etc) are probably in hock to the banks. From an early age and through my teens I spent most or all of my spare time on a farm, my mates were farmers sons who all went went on to be farmers it is not a job it is a way of life. I retired to and live in a farming area now and nothing has changed. Those who bought up large acreages of farming land to avoid inheritance tax pushed up the price of the average farm land example two three or four hundred acres which makes your ordinary farmer asset rich cash poor.
- You’ll no doubt be telling me the weather would be fine if cows didn’t fill the atmosphere with methane.
Why tell me I have no idea what I am talking about?
Most of the stuff you have put down is the same as I have said.
You are talking stuff you have read which is ■■■■■ that’s a 5 letter word beginning s ending e. You are retired go and live the farming life for a spell, a Welsh hill farm, or the fells of Cumbria, give it a go man offer to work for bed and grub, that is what a lot of farmers do, you’ll find a link eg opportunity to work on a farm.
You are one sanctimonious arse. you haven’t lived the life of an ordinary farmer.
True enough. And I have never said otherwise.
Now, what have I said, that is different to what you are saying?
From the NFU, please feel free to rubbish or refute. Myself, I suspect that they may just have an inkling about farming stuff. Certainly more than HGV drivers equipped with Google I imagine.
So if you are implying that so few farmers will be affected as you appear to have done across several posts, why then did 20,000 farmers turn up in London for a protest on Tuesday? And that’s the one’s who turned up, I’m sure there are many thousands more who didn’t who may be affected.
Are they all the rich land buying tax dodgers you seem to be labelling them as?
I’ve found it best in life, that if you know sfa about something, it’s best not to pretend you do and make yourself look silly, and at the same time maybe annoy those who actually do…
So best just to shut tf up.
Just saying.
Absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting listening to this. Especially when you consider we are spending millions per day housing illegal immigrants in hotels.
I’m sure Theresa, who has worked for 47 years and paid into the system would be very grateful for a warm room - even if she had to share it with 4 other people. Something has gone very wrong in this country when we prioritise and look after people who shouldn’t be here but can do nothing about our pensioner’s, expecting them to freeze over winter because of some clearly flawed means testing. And this poor woman actually gets the fuel allowance.
Police estimated about 10,000 protesters took part. (Reuters)
And that is probably 10,000 farms each sending one family member.
I am sure the NFU have more expertise in farming than me.
I am also sure that they have a motive for being somewhat biased in their point of view.
Their figures mention £1m but for a family farm that is £2m in value of land alone, plus the normal allowance that we all get. £2.65m.
The NFU says that “APR is not a loophole”.
It is not meant to be a loophole, but it certainly being used as one.
Clarkson on the Top Gear website, about his reasoning behind the huge project: "I have bought a farm. There are many sensible reasons for this. Land is a better investment than any bank can offer.
“The government doesn’t get any of my money when I die.”
They are still being treated as a special case.
Are they all big money tax dodgers? No.
But some are, and doing nothing, will mean that our NHS, schools, etc will be underfunded if dodgers keep getting away with it. Not a perfect solution, but nothing is.
Police “estimate” and you “assuming” each farm sending 1 family member. Both subjective numbers, just as my 20,000 that I read is. Irrelevant of who is correct or whether the true figure is somewhere in the middle, are you still suggesting that they are all rich land grabbing tax dodgers and not “genuine” farmers who will be affected?
I’d suggest the NHS perhaps looks into where it’s money is spent rather than just constantly screaming for more. Unnecessary middle management, ridiculous diversity and equality departments etc.
Maybe also look at how many billions we are wasting on foreign aid to countries who don’t need it, unachievable and pointless net zero rubbish and so on.
I actually agree with you on Clarkson to an extent.
On one hand his netflix series has done wonders to highlight the plight of farmers and how hard it is. From this point of view I understand why he was the designated “spokesman” for the farming community.
However he made no secret it was for tax purposes and his comment about wanting to buy a farm to be able to shoot. That last comment alone is enough to alienate a lot of people.
By the same token, maybe you could share your motive with us, for your biased point of view.
The point of view where this government, in your eyes can do nothing wrong.
When the things they are doing wrong (or badly) in the view of a very large proportion of the country, YOU sit there like a two bob Alistair Campbell casually and pompously spinning it and excusing it.
You mention bias…As I keep saying it among others on here, if this was the Tories doing what this lot have done in the short time they have been in power, your keyboard would be in overdrive.
So maybe you mentioning a 'biased point of view is yet another example of your trademark oblivious self awareness of irony .
For Franglais…Defender of the ‘IRREGULAR’ migrants in their ‘HOSTELS’.
An opportunity to make a few quid here from your principles mate.
I know you have already stated like the rest of the gobby Lefties, especially the ones with their ‘Migrants Are Welcome Here’ placards, who have every excuse for not taking one in thenselves, that you also can’t, presumably because you had the painters in.
But you could cash in here mate, take a couple of young guys of fighting age in…sorry ‘FAMILIES fleeing persecution’.
You know it makes sense Rodney.
Pleased I could point out the opportunity to you…you’re welcome.
Farming is hard. Very.
Owning land, and getting more return than a bank would give you, according to Clarkson, isn’t.
Those buying land as a tax dodge are inflating the cost of land for those who actually do want to farm it.
I suggest that some genuine farmers will be affected, along with the tax dodgers. I can understand that many who are going to be asked to pay tax, when previously they didn’t are going to be upset.
They are probably not all rich tax dodgers on the protest, but some will be like our example Clarkson whose heirs may be asked to pay tax, at half the rate, on £3m, when he thought they would be paying nowt on £4m.
We can all easily find examples of Gov monies (our taxes) spent as we do not like.
An oft repeated chorus.
Supported by very little, and countered by a lot of actual studies and data.
Although in any large organisation there will instances of waste and instances shown, the NHS is an efficient provider of health care. Go look at the information out there measuring such, and do not rely on speeches full of rhetoric, and devoid of facts from politicians.
Hospital ceilings are not falling in because of too much money.
The NHS has only 2% in management.
i could save the nhs in about 3 points
- stop paying them so much… nursing is one of the best paid jobs in the country no where else can you earn more than minimum wage while having absolutely no qualifications i think you dont even need gcse’s.
2.) Sack with prejudice any incompetent pillock that cant follow the most basic instruction regardless of race, gender, position or length of service.
- force gp’s to do their jobs properly rather than hiding behind the sofa at the slightest excuse and just passing the buck.
job done… no need for another 20 billion after bugger lugs said he wasnt going to give them anymore.
you want to sort schools out? that’s easy as well stop building houses with no services so the local school becomes over crowded. Stop importing people
If your realy worried about tax dodgers you would be well advised to look at the antics of starmer and his mates or those that move their money out of the country and contribute nothing. oh wait they wont do that because they pay for the suits and knees ups so we will go for the farmers that provide for the country.
