Can any-one suggest the best method / product to polish up the diesel tanks on the truck
The truck isn’t that old … but the tanks have never been polished … so starting from “scratch”.I’ve got my tin-hat ready for the comments about joining the “tank polishing” brigade
Thought I might just join this club … well there is only so much ■■■■ you can watch on the lap-top
Was sat for 16hrs the other night … tipped at Sittingbourne @ 4pm … wasn’t loading @ Faversham until 11am next morning … the joys of fridge work
If they’ve never been polished start with autosol, it’s got a slight abrasive in it so should bring a lot of the crap off the tank. Do that a few times then get a decent polish, I’ve used white diamond, Lucas and great lion and they’re all brilliant. They’re not cheap especially the great lion one but they get a really good shine after a few times using it. Get a roll of polishing cloth from halfords and you can cut loads of cloths off that and get some decent microfibre cloths. Use one cloth to apply the polish in an up and down motion till the polish starts to come back off, then leave it for a few minutes. Get another cloth and take the polish off and then get the microfibre to buff it to a real good shine. It’s a lot of work and other people may have quicker ways of doing it but I’m happy with the results I get. Also be prepared for a lot of stick when doing it, don’t let them grind you down.

That great lion stuff is way too expensive!Anyone favour peek over autosol? Or they just about the same?
both are ok but you just had to keep rubbing, with white diamond and great lion you rube it on till it goes dark then just leave it to dry and wipe off done, all the other stuff when it goes black you then have to keep rubbing and rubbing till it all comes off

Why bother though? It’s a plain white fleet unit and a polished tank does what exactly?

Because it looks cared for and the driver takes a pride in it, why not.
Also being foodstuffs and high profile livery, the customers and the general public see squeaky clean lorry, good impression.

i find autosol easier too work with, after covering an area twice using the three cloth method i then mix autosol with some white dimond and do it a final time and tend too find i get result. the great lion stuff is good but a £22 a bottle it aint cheap
Has any one had any luck rigging a air polisher to the air of the unit to make it easy to get a good shine ■■

Yes, used a spare airline and fittings, plug it into the red airline up the revs a little, works fine. Did my tanks and the cab with it.
