44 year old driver bailed

very bad news. i’ve had more than my fare share of run ins with the law, but i wouldn’t wish this on any of them.

mickyblue:
When i am dealing with a broken down vehicle there is a saying that runs through my head “never turn your back on traffic”

That, why one of us always watches the traffic at an incident. Heaven knows what will happen when we move to single crewing. We’ll probably start to see reports like this. RIP PC Goodlad. :frowning:

They’re gonna single crew you?? Elf & Safety can be ignored in the face of “cost-cutting exercises” then, can it? Plain bloody madness…

I’ve been involved as subject matter expert for the last 3 weeks carrying out testing to see if it’s feasible. I wouldn’t like to see anyone lose their life in the name of cost cutting.

Thinking the same thing.

They would rather risk it to save a few quid now days

I have never understood why HA employees dont stand behind the armco

If it’s there, I use it and get the vehicle occupants there as well. If there isn’t any, get them to stand as far over as possible away from the vehicle to give some margin of safety if the brown smelly stuff hits the fan.

I had a blow out on the bottom end of the m5 thursday at ten to 6 am and it was ■■■■■■■ down with rain ,finally got going again at 0825 and never saw a copper or hato in 2 and half hours, and nobody at all moved over to give the tyre guy a bit of space, luckily the hard shoulder was almost twice the normal width still bloody dangerous tho.

For future reference, call 0300 123 5000 and give them your location, they’ll get a patrol to assist with a lane closure if needed.

:unamused: Unbelievable.

What’s unbelievable, Rob? The fact that someone is trying to help out? I guess in your little world of petty grievances that IS pretty unusual…

The fact that this thread is about a motorway traffic policeman being killed while doing his duty, if he thought he needed a road closure he wouldn’t have called 0300 123 5000

These HATO guys are almost as predictable as Brit Pete and Luxembourg

I’m assuming the number was in reply to calebs gramps’ post about nobody moving over for the fitter - he wasn’t suggesting that the officer should have called in the Wombles, was he?

And the same answer goes, the tyre fitters and DAFAid etc will have that information if they deem it necessary. I cannot see this being a decision for the driver to take otherwise every motorway in the UK would have 53 mile jams.

You cannot mention HATO or the Plastic Police with a bunch of them jumping out of their warm car and trying to justify their jobs.

Here we go again!

I give in, not bothering anymore

I know the feeling

There is a saying though, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”

Yeah, but if you lie down with dogs, you catch fleas.

But you can get treatment for that though
