PNP & HRSDC

Hi All,

I would like advice please on what the major differences are between The Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP) and The Foreign Worker Program through HRSDC and gaining Permanent Residency (PR) using both avenues.

Here is my situation.

I am applying to come to Canada as Long Haul Truck Driver.

Most Provinces recognise this as a skill shortage and you can apply using the PNP.

However I received the following reply from the British Columbian PNP office as just my luck the job which I REALLY would like is in BC:

Unfortunately, the BC PNP is currently not accepting applications for Truck Driver occupations. Your (potential) Canadian employer may wish to consider applying under The Foreign Worker Program (FWP) operated by CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada).

Q’s

  1. How difficult is it for me to come to Canada to work using the FWP
  2. How difficult is it for my potential employer to employ me using the FWP (cost to them)
  3. Can I go onto apply for PR using the FWP & is it easier or more difficult to gain PR
  4. Is my work permit only valid for a set period of time on the FWP
  5. I have searched these forums and some have said that the next thing you have to do once you arrive using the FWP is to get onto the PNP “BUT” if BC are not recruiting drivers via PNP how are you supposed to get onto the PNP?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as the questions you always want answered are never easy to find on the relevant websites.

Cheers Dave

Dave,
Try posting those questions on the Canadian forum at www.britishexpats.com and I’m sure someone will give you an answer pretty quickly.
