How good are trailer pin locks? I’ve got a fairly good one, but I still reckon I could get it off in less than three minutes with a cordless drill.
I’ve got a Bulldog one and it is supposedly hardened so in theory a drill wouldn’t touch it, but in practice I’ve no idea how well it would stand up if someone determined had a go.

We use a suzi lock, slips over the connection where the red line goes on,very easy to use and alot cleaner than a pin lock.
I always think that if I wanted to steal a trailer, and it had a pin lock, that I could just go along with another pin, bolt it to the alternative position and then drive away.
I use both, airline locks and pin locks.
Both are effective imho, but youre gonna spend a prohibitively long time trying to remove one of the “red bowler hat” pin locks.
Certainly long enough to draw attention. The only downside to them is price. The last ones i bought were just over £100 each!
Drop the air and take the red coupling off and home with you

I’m sure all locks could be removed with enough time and the right kit, its really supposed to deter somebody so they go and find easier pickings.

Isn’t it all reinforced around and above the pin though? I would have thought it would just rip the pin off if you bolted another one on wouldn’t it?

Couldnt it still be moved using the shunt button?

Only if there’s air in the trailer.
We use a pinlock for the trailer that won’t fit in the depot, it’s behind locked gates too, but I’m sure if someone wanted it, they’d take it. But, there’s much easier trailers to take in the area, so think we’re safe.
I’ve looked at airline locks but to my mind a diddycoy could cut something like this off in two seconds with bolt croppers or force it off with a jacking bar.

you could just unscrew the fitting with a spanner and re fit another in seconds!

A lot of drivers in Hilton could get them off by simply smashing them off with the fifth wheel plate, the evidence was often on the floor on a Monday morning.
As with most things, if a thief wants something really bad they’ll get it. Best bet is to make it as hard as possible for them to nick whatever it is they want to nick so they either give up or get disturbed. Could always try a combination of pin lock and airline lock?
Don’t get me wrong I have no idea about trailer security as I’m ‘in training’, but if it looks like a pain in the ■■■ to pinch chances are they’ll just move on to the next one. Setting up a few ‘hurdles’ could probably be enough to put a potential thief off but if they want it bad then chances are they’ll get it.

wouldnt stop me pinching it, push the shunt button, 1 second, or if an old trailer wind the brakes off, 10 mins

after pushing the shunt button how far would you be able to travel without winding the brakes off do you think/know?

the shunt button will only work if there is air in the system to start with though, so you mighht have to wind them off first

nah, i would defect the trailer air leak and come back the night after
they are all easy enough to wash off with a portable acetylene bottles. if you have gone to the trouble to pinch a unit to nick a trailer you wont mind spending a few quid on a portable set of bottles.
