Pilot, Newburgh NY

During the really cold months the Pilot in Newburgh NY had the DEF system turned off with a sign saying ‘Please buy DEF totes inside’ … NEVER ! It costs more than twice as much in those cans than at the pump, so I would just wait till I got to another truck stop and buy at the pump. After a few weeks I asked the manager when they would have DEF again on a later visit when it had warmed up and was told that it was now because they had run out “But we do have it in cans” he said.
“No thanks, it’s too expensive, I’ll just go to the TA down the road”
He didn’t like that. This past Friday I stopped in there to see the same sticker on the pumps telling drivers to buy totes inside. How stupid are these drivers who buy those cans FFS ? I have even seen it for sale at prices like $10.00 a gallon. At the pump in most places it’s about $2.50 to $3.00 max.

Thankfully my old banger doesn’t have DEF, although our newest truck on the fleet does, but its on the passenger side ffs.

As for that Pilot at Newburgh, thats on my list to avoid, I dont like the poxy hole as it has to be one of the worst for drivers sitting on the pumps and then ■■■■■■ off inside for half an hour and the subsequent queue of trucks makes actually exiting the parking impossible if you’re around that side. Horrible place, I think I prefer Milford and Pittston to that one.

Nah ! The one in Milford is by far the worst Pilot in the country, second comes Newburgh. The worst truckstop in the entire country is the Loves in Bordentown NJ :frowning:

lol they’re all as bad as each other. I’ve only been in the Loves at Bordentown once or twice since it ceased being a Pilot and actually thought it was a slight improvement as I have vivid nightmares of the queues for the diesel pumps in there and the only times Ive been in since it became a Loves it seemed dead by comparison, although the parking is always chocka due to the nearby Petro charging for parking.

As for Milford, it seems to be one extreme or the other in there these days. Last week I thought I’d call in for a bit of diesel, only to see the queue extending down the entrance way nearly all the way to the main road. I aborted at the last minute, pulled in to that crap hole next door, turned around and got out of Dodge. It all worked out in the end as that night I fuelled up at the TA in Southington which made my parking for the night free and enjoyed a lovely shower and had a nice relaxing 16 hour daily rest and my first drop the next day was just around the corner and didn’t open until 9am.

We are only permitted to use Pilots or Loves with the exception of a couple of TA’s, two on I-83 in CT and the one on I-80 near Delaware water gap, we can if desperate get 25 gallons at other stops but must inform the company and give a reason. I refuse to use the Loves in Bordentown and get 25 gallons at the Petro if really needed. I have told management I refuse to use that place.
