Well holy cow , the “I didn’t come all this way to drive a Volvo” and pike loathing man has become a turncoat , WTF ? Did the occasional pike switch out to Tomkins back in early 07 and you’re welcome to that bollox come the winter time . FFS
Just you wait until you have to drag an empty set back from Cowtown in the wind What have you committed yourself to ?
Priorities change when you pay the bills mate, I’m a businessman that drives a truck, the glory days of belting about in a fancy Peterbilt are over, it’s all about the money now.
take a while to walk around that bugger don’t think I would be to keen on it myself in your snow…
Pulling pikes across the Prairies isn’t the answer , and you know it .50/60c per mile extra for dragging another trailer through the snow doesn’t equate to good business in my book , plus all the hassle from fueling and parking . Get yourself a dedicated run down South ,which is where your profit/loss benefits , and leave all the pike crap to the knob jockeys . Only saying
$2100 banked this week (5 days work) and not back in until a week tomorrow ,whole family out on a cattle drive in 9 hours time bringing them back for the winter ,then car show and rugby semi finals on Saturday . Good times ,yeap , they’re here to be had .
Me leaving Oswestry truck show on Sunday
yes I know about the bumper apparently being painted this week …

Passed the test to drive these bad boys today, that’s two 53’ trailers, overall length 41m and 63500kgs GVW, should be fun in the snow and ice
41m is a bit longer than here, but seriously just 63500kgs? that’s nothing on that many meters. Around how much can you load, do you even reach the 40000kg mark?
76000kgs GVW here in a year now and didn’t see any problem in the winter with that, before 60000kgs GVW for years

My new steed.
Was it you heading over Shap on Tuesday morning about 7:40, southbound?
Saw either that or it’s twin

Well the unit is 20,000lbs, with an empty trailer around 33,500lbs, obviously there’s two, plus the converter which is, so I’m told 4,600lbs making a total of c.51,600lbs which by my calculations is 23.4 metric tonnes, so 40tonnes is about it.
The wind will be my biggest enemy, both on mpg and trying to keep in a straight line, we get winds here that blow freight trains over, although that’s an extreme and very rare, but 80km/h side winds are quite common and add an icy road into the mix and things get a little bit exciting.
Running on my old job with a trailer full of potato crisps (about 5,000lbs) you could have the unit running on the center line and the trailer would be a foot onto the shoulder (or vice versa) when the wind was strong, that will be exaggerated with another trailer, so it will be time to park (which I get paid well to do)

I know the feeling when you are driving on a mountain in the winter with some heavy side wind. You look in on mirror, hey where is the trailer. Then a shirt glance at the other mirror and you se it almost all the way over on the oncoming traffics lane
Oh yeah, living the dream ain’t so much fun on those days

Naah if it just would be possible I would only drive trucks in the winter. Best thing I know is 20cm of snow on the road. Icey hills and so on, love challenges. That’s what I call living the dream.
