I’ve got an interview with them next Tuesday for a clinical waste collection driver working out of their Darlington depot. I’ve noticed lately that they run wagons with special rear loading refuse truck type bodies (bin lifter with compactor). They often display orange plates, so I assume they often carry quanities of UN 3291 (6.2). I’ve noticed that they mostly collect from schools and doctors’ surgeries, etc.
Within the last hour, I’ve been reading reviews about them on various job sites, and they are mostly negative, so I’m now a bit worried if that’s the company in general. I’ve applied so I could get some ADR experience.
What’s the job like in general (like handling used sharps boxes, etc)?
Is there anybody who is currently doing or has done this type of work in the past?
Cheers.
I have worked for PHS direct and currently through the agency on class 1 on the lifecycle side great Company to work for but you will not do any overtime. I have covered the bin lorry side occasionally doing offensive waste and sharps waste from nurseries, tattoo places, care homes etc it is very physical and you will do on average 25 calls a day and each could have 1-6 bins onsite in various locations. On the plus side you can choose your start time, its clean apart from the smell as you dont touch the waste, health and safety mad, and given all PPE, cleaning products and hand gel wipes etc The interview itself is quite intense for a driving interveiw and be prepared to be asked ‘how did that make you feel’ after a lot of the questions and once you have accepted the job you will get a driving assesment and comperterized highway code test that you have to pass before you can start working. If you want to know more please ask.
Do they carry Category A (high risk in orange bags) waste?
I wouldn’t take to much notice of online reviews. Go and find out for yourself.

Yes some of them do which go with the sharps boxes to an incineration plant once the Compartment is full.
Ignore the reviews on indeed it really aint a bad place to work not as much bull crap as the likes of Biffa etc, I left a full time job to earn more money and regretted it so ended up back on the agency doing my old job which unfortunatly is coming to an end soon as the are moving the artics to hayes.
The girls round us seem to enjoy it collecting tiger bags from pubs and offices, sharps bins from carehomes and filling soap dispensers
Went for the interview today and it wasn’t as tough as I thought it was going to be. The bloke just asked me a few basic questions on driver’s/WTD hours and other run-of-the-mill questions.
If I’m successful (they will ring me on Friday) I will be doing two runs a day from Darlington to Pontefract to tip the waste that was collected earlier on that day with the bin wagon-type vehicles.

Glad it went well for you mate and your on the easy work, you will tip into the back of a titan trailer, which is what I pull, see pic. Really easy drop the bin lift abd tail gate back onto trailer and press the button when the driver tells you to. Pontefract depot is actually south kirby really easy to get too off the A1.
This is the titan trailers

I have seen one of them “Titan” wagons up at the Haverton Hill incinerator quite a few times.

Yeah if the midlands plant is down we all used to run up there to tip it off but now its just the northern trucks that go there, the waste is normally trunked to the plant in West Brom but its down more times than its running.

Just got an e-mail from them, saying that I have been rejected.

Sorry to hear that mate onwards and upwards with the job search might not have been anything to do woth the interveiw as they have just hired a new ceo and he is shaking up the transport department massively.
