I just looked up Volvo 460 on Wiki, apparently they were built in Holland, at the DAF factory, I never knew that.

They were, they were originally a DAF 33 Variomatic and went from that to a 340, then to a 440/460 before becoming S40 and T4

Fitted with a variety of engines including Volvo and Renault, 1600, 1800 and 2.0 litre

one very good reason to buy a cheap diesel car is,
you can run it on red, and if you get pulled they take it off you, and you get another.
now, providing you get away with it for 6 months, then you break even, any more than that, then you’re a bob or two up.

just make sure it’s a DI engine, not a hdi, tdci, crdi. as you will [zb] the high pressure pump on the engine, to re con a ford tdci one IIRC it’s about 5-600 quid

first thing, sorry for derailing this topic, i’ll have to dig up some of my £500 car’s out

why what’s a load of bull then?

don’t know if it changed, but red derv isn’t as refined as white (don’t know if that’s changed due to tractor’s having common rail lump’s fitted)

i have seen what red diesel does to a 1.9pdtdi a4. the engine oil had turned red. tank pump, high pressure pump (mounted on the engine), the injectors, were all knackered. it had scored the cam’s aswell, due to the diesel had thinned the oil down… we didn’t bother going any further with the strip down.

philip
automotive mechanic, and class 4 and 7 mot tester. so i ain’t any joe blogg’s who does a bit of spannering on the street on a sunday.

That’s interesting info, I was always under the impression that red diesel was simply white diesel with a dye added but I’ll be the first to admit that this is only hearsay.

You aint no chemist either. Rebated fuel in the UK uses Solvent Red 24 and quinizarin (CAS NO. 81-64-1) for the markers, it is simply a dye that is added to normal diesel. It is a fine orange or red chrystaline powder.

Granted the diesel they use is not low sulphur stuff as sold on the pumps, but there are many fuel stations who do sell two grades of diesel oil fuel. But to be honest it sounds like your engine has been running on kerosene at some time, the fuel dye will mark the internals, but the dry lubricant in kero will do that sort of damage you mention. It also has a different detonation temperature.

The above failures are classic non PD spec oil being used in a PD engine (and/or missed oil changes), the diesel being where it shouldn’t be is symptomatic rather than causal.

+1 . Red derv wont harm anything, people woldnt risk red naffing up fridges leaving them liable for £1000s of pounds of claims should a load be rejected let alone mess a fridge engine up .
Farms wouldnt risk damage to £1000s of pounds of vehicles .

Red damaging vehicles is a scare story to make nervous Nigels worry , simple as that .

Normal city derv is more damaging to a engine as it has had sulphur removed to meet the emmisions to enable a butterfly to pass the exhaust without sneezing .

Sulphur is needed as a lube in older pumps .

Anyways what do I know , I am just a lorry driver .

Allegedly!

got myself another motor needs a windscreen defiantly for mot been quoted £95 fitted goin to garage saturday to get it checked over for mot if its not too bad it will be moted if its bad it will get broken up only paid £250 for it not long had new clutch either
