Hi SONYAH23,

I’ve split your post from where you posted it and moved it here where it will be seen by those who might be able to help.

Hello SONYA23 and welcome to the Trucknet site.
Steve Goodwin  now there’s a name that I have not heard of in years, it’s about time that he retired  .
There is a picture here that somebody posted years ago of a Fosters Seddon, now I am fairly sure that back in the early seventies Steve had a A.E.C. Mandator for many years when he was on Fosters and then he got I.I.R.C. a Scania 110. The last time that I saw him in the nineties was when he was an owner driver with a Scania.

After doing a search I knew that there was a Lincolnshire thread somewhere.

Fosters are a blast from the past Steve, they were at Langworth on the A158 between Lincoln and Wragby, near a level crossing IIRC.

Wot you doing up this time of neet Chris.
I always wondered if there was a Fosters of Lincoln (Transport) connection with the Fosters of Lincoln tank builders or have we covered this question before.

Regards Steve.

You Southern Hemisphere lads are ar*e about face timewise Steve.Wife working until 0230 bless her,as a Samaritan - mind you,she never listens to me.
I don’t recall the subject of Fosters the tank builders coming up before, maybe there is a connection.

A Samaritan :open_mouth: we all thought your misses must be a saint to put up with you Chris.
Many years ago I remember seeing an old Open University programme called Tanks For Mesopotamia which was very interesting. It seems that during the first world war Fosters Of Lincoln were developing the armoured tanks for the Western Front but they told everybody that they were building mobile water tanks for Mesopotamia just in case there were German spies living in the Lincoln area, hence the name Tank.
Somebody did show a picture of a tank monument in Lincoln somewhere on the Trucknet site some time ago but I can’t remember seeing it back in the sixties when I spent a bit of time there.

Regards Steve.

Dont think there was any connection , I remember Jack saying he did his apprenticeship at Gwynnes pumps in Lincoln before he got mixed up with the lorries . They had a coal yard and a little farm at Langworth as well as the transport . ■■■■ Foster ( Chummy ) was the farmer , once met never forgotten ! ! regards , Geoff

In the late 60’s early 70’s Fosters were regulars in Kraft foods at Kirby Liverpool mostly tilt cab AEC’s. Eddie.

They were also regulars at Dairy Produce Packers on Bentley Avenue Middleton before The Stakehill Industrial Estate was built. I have a feeling that they might of been doing Danish bacon and Lurpak butter from ports on the East Coast and I can remember Steve doing at least one trip to Germany in the seventies.

well now, I’m still in touch with pete creamer, he’s just retired from taxiing for about the 4th time, well he is 71 now, & I have been living n working in Canada since 2005. I guess Geoff is Geoff roach. how are u mate looooong time no see.toby

Good to hear you still around mate , not seen you for almost 30 years now . Nice to know Pete is still around , used to see him when he was at Alan Tysons . Not too many of the old companies left in Lincoln now , Denbys , Cartwrights and Lyons . Bradshaws are still going , there are quite a few new firms but i cant think of any more old ones . Just thought of one Wagstaffs at Hykham but they might run under a different name . Regards Geoff

Hi Chris Webb and others, I spent a week in Lincs in Sept, took a view photos and this is Langworth and the level crossing you mention, I realise the thread is of “old haulage companies in Lincolnshire” if I’ve got it wrong I’ll soon wheek 'em off.
