Petrol and diesel cars to be phased out within 20 years?

It’s heading for a right mess regarding public charging infrastructure leading up to the ICE ban. Latest FOI act shows there are 44,000 EV charge points across the UK and in the last 12 months local authorities across the UK only installed 8000 instead of the 40,000/year that are needed every year until 2030 to meet the governments target of 300,000 :open_mouth:

This video explains perfectly what’s in store for legacy automakers especially Japanese automakers in the next few years. :open_mouth: youtube.com/watch?v=oKSN2AzZiUo

Ouch!!! Looks like a spendy year next year for Ford & Toyota, “Next year sees the start of the ZEV [zero emission vehicle] mandate in the U.K. under which sales of electric or fuel cell vehicles must reach 22 percent of registrations in the first year or automakers will face fines of £15,000 per car or £9,000 per van that don’t comply.” :open_mouth:

“Ford with just a 2 percent EV share and Toyota at one percent share over the 12-month period would pay the biggest fines if they do not drastically improve their EV sales given their market size.”

“Other automakers in trouble include Suzuki and Land Rover at zero EV sales in the 12-month period, while Mazda only managed 3 percent.” europe.autonews.com/automakers/ … k-ev-quota

They back pedalled on the 2030 comedy hour deadline, will they back pedal on the date for fines for not complying, will Richy follow Tone Dave DePfeffel and MrsT to the gravy train, can you wait for next years thrilling installment in the deliberate self destruction of bonkers broke Britain.

They seem determined to make it as hard as possible here in the UK & tax the private car out of existence  The origin of parts tariffs start in January 2024 which would put £3,400 on an EV if they don’t get this sorted out soon, France is against helping the UK in getting an agreement as they said they cant be seen to be helping us since brexit. fleetnews.co.uk/news/fleets … -agreement

They want to start charging the private car even more with congestion tax transport-network.co.uk/Cou … -1bn/19134

Shock Horror! The Italians are up in arms over Stellantis decision to build the new Alfa Romeo EV ‘Milano’ outside of Italy & chose Poland instead.
It would be €10000 more expensive if it was built in Italy. All legacy auto are going to suffer this fate as they cant compete with China’s price point on EV’s, & that will go for heavy-duty truck manufacturers too in the next few years.

:scream: Blimey! Get a load of this. Germany is threatening banning car & lorries at weekends unless climate law is changed.

" Last week, Wissing warned that nationwide driving bans on weekends might become necessary under the country’s current climate law, which forces ministries to present immediate action programmes if annual emission targets for their respective sector are missed.

“I have told the citizens the truth because this sectoral view means that we have to save 22 million [tonnes of] CO2 equivalents [in transport] immediately,” Wissing told radio station Deutschlandfunk on Friday (12 April).

“And these 22 million tonnes of savings cannot be achieved with a speed limit or other measures, such large quantities can only be saved ad hoc by not using cars and lorries,” Wissing said, adding that driving bans on all weekends would be necessary to reach such an emissions reduction."
