I’ve had plenty of cab/ tri searches over years but never a personnel one,how do you standand on these
The reason I ask is because mate was saying company was picking I think bananas up off of docks( Southampton I think) ,and he said company drivers were asked to have a personnel search, they were fine with cab,tri but not personnel search( they were going in too load, not comming out), so from what he says they refused the personnel search, and I think they were turned away.
I’ve never had it happen so seems a bit fishy too me,but if it is correct what’s your rights on a search of your person
It’s only my personal view but I wouldn’t object to a personal search if going somewhere sensitive ie airside or maybe a military establishment, but to be subject to a personal search to go load bloody bananas would be a no no. My feeling (rightly or wrongly) would be either that the searcher was on some kind of power trip and wanting to establish his dominance, or he was some kind of strange person who got his rocks off “accidentally” brushing his hands over my nether regions.
Now if it was a female searcher…

Yes Ma’am
I never let anyone inside the cab at security gates coming out only the trl and never to search my person ■■■■ that.
The only time anyone as looked inside the cab was during the first Gulf war we were running for the MOD on the logistics side nothing heavy mainly equipment to the docks and to other army bases and they had to search the cabs for the obvious reasons they did it with the sniffer dogs and checked under the unit and trl with the mirrors, but i wouldnt let some jumped up prick in a uniform thinking he was in the SAS inside my personal things, they used to look through the drivers window end of.
Most were ok but some were just ■■■■■.
cant see the problem really .we would go into Portsmouth docks to collect trailers loaded or empty all they did was wave the magic wand over you thought it was daft really but its just a tick in a box random task security do… its only someone doing their job after all.
At our place there are random searches and the “personal” searches are just a look into any bags that you might be carrying (after the bag owner has opened them) or empty pockets. Never yet been patted down and I think I might be resistant for that as when does frisk become assault?
I have some areas on my body that are very sensitive and have been known to twitch uncontrollably if tickled.
If they are going as far as ‘patted down’ then I would be refusing unless it was Police or Military.
edit add:
If it was obvious that that the issue was taking matches etc on site than I would co-operate.

Thanks for that! it’s only lent!
Only had personal search when i once deliverd to a prison, in fact I had to virtually empty my cab of my stuff like all cutlery etc,I can understand it at a prison but would not be happy about it at an rdc or somewhere similar…
I refused a personal search at a parcel company by a hired in security guard ,called a manager ,and was given the the ok ,but I never went back to the company ( a major parcel overnighter) I wont have the intrusion by a jumped up ■■■■■■
So the more that refuse the search, the more the docks will struggle to find hauliers to shift the stuff, its time to fight back these do gooders who call themselves security on £6.50 per hour for 12 hour shifts. As said earlier, if it was police/army/airports etc, thats a different story.
Private security are getting a bit ott, have you seen the uniform they wear at canary warf? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuYSVCW9ILs Found this the other day , One of a stores security , who IMO should be locked uphttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yc8FBmaTqc
The security at stena cairnryan port do the body search stuff. There is 1 fella that’s always at it, one day I pulled up and he asked me if I would step out of the truck for a body search.I said no problem. Has he started his searches I started to to groan and said that he should start the search again has I was enjoying it and that I really liked him.that was 6-7 months ago he he hasn’t searched me since.
hi all your mate was at dp world southampton container berth where pat DOWNS ARE COMMON BECAUSE THE MAN WHO HEAD OF SECURITY IS EX MILITARY WITH A GOD COMPLEX AND THINKS ALL DRIVERS ARE THICK AND ARE TERRORISTS
as far as i,m aware unless agreed (and this may be an agreement between your employer and the customer you are delivering to) a private security guard cannot search you, however saying that it is a very grey area as door staff can, prisons ect are a little different as some private security firms are employed as an assistance to prison officers, nhs ect.
whilst in security i have had to search many folk but with their consent and tbh if the communication between the officer and the person being searched is right then there is generally no problems. but yes the hitlers out there make it a ■■■■ site worse… it all comes down to attitude. by both parties!

Nearly choked while having my tea at home with wife.
Quality.
Ken.
We had to have a rubdown at DHL when going into East Midlands Hub, generally it was OK but there was one strange guy who reminded me of Cosmo Smallpiece who if he was on shift, we would not be cooperative, normally after a 15 minute stand off they let you through anyway.
The two worst places I have visited are Fawley Refinery and Alcan at Alum Rock. They just treat drivers like a piece of meat!
Security guards and door staff have no right of search.
They can search as a condition of entry to premises however there’s no law which allows anyone other than a police officer or similar (border agency etc) to search you.
