I had a personal message from a “new member” 
today requesting information about moving to Canada.
Who ever it was had never posted at all previously under that name at any rate (and only joined yesterday).
I have suggested they post their query here instead of contacting me off the site.
Does anybody have any comments?

Most good and reputable forums only allow PMing after the PMer has posted at least 3 posts. I would reply to the PMer and sugest they post their question so as to get a broader set of replies on their question.

I have done so, about 3 hours ago, so far, zilch posted here, so I wonder if they are for real or just a windup.

I’d say you did the right thing in the circumstances.
Maybe a nuisance PMer & you’ve called his bluff early BJD.
I too got the same PM, i replied and pointed out after the initial PM asked about PR and OTR trucking, that i didnt fall under this category and they should maybe try asking some of the other expats.
I had an email saying i had a reply from the original PM guy, and when i went to check it, the guy had deleted his message before i even got it…
The PMer has now posted so we will have to see how things develop. Hopefully it is a genuine poster.
Im also new member to this forum and have also pm’d members on here already(thanks for the replies guys and girls). My reason for doing so is my experience on other forums. Sometimes the discussion goes way off topic and i find it easier to pick the most relevant posts and pm the poster. Having said that i would always post the topic first and see what develops, 1 to see if my questions get answered and 2 because i like the arguments 
I find senior members are generally willing to help and if they cant help themselves, then they will know who can as they have been here a lot longer than me. Just my 2 cents

Oh yes, the arguments are the best bits.
You will get a lot of help here, just that some of it comes across very negatively which, when someone is looking forward to starting anew, is likely to put them off.
Read as much as you can here, remembering some people have axes to grind, look at other forums for ex pats and immigrants (can’t really link to them here but you can search for them).
Finally make up your own mind. Only you know how much you want to go and what you are willing to do to reach your goal. What other people found to be an unbearable imposition, you may have no problem accepting. Its your future. Choose wisely.

Actually I do believe I answered it very early on, maybe that isnt the answer you were hoping to find.
I try to avoid PM on any forum as it doesn’t really help other posters or lurkers. If a PM or post degenerates into a slanging match, it is probably easier to simply ignore or block them.
What does boil my ■■■■ is when someone asks a question that has been asked hundreds of times and then disagrees with the answers they get.

Not me Jon, I think this site would be a boring place without the likes of Carryfast 
I come on here for a variety of reasons, entertainment being one of them, 8 pages of BTD and Carryfast going at it are pure quality as far as I’m concerned
