Pegasus Freightlines

Found this old photo today, which IIRC, I took in the late 70’s.
Not many hauliers had sleeper-cabs on their smaller trucks at this time (we were still sleeping across the seats), so it was
a bit of an ‘eye-catcher’.

i used to run with about 3 pegasus drivers on the swiss run for uniex just after the herald went down my now wife lost her 1st husband on that bucket iworked for a haulier in bedfordshire at the time then went on to start up on my own and had 5 units working for uniex they paid me £1amile all miles run diesel cost 34 p a litre in luxemburgh they were the days iwent to a meeting with uniex to get a bit of a raise to pay the drivers more but was tolt by les gibbs they had a quote from norfolk line at 78p amile thats when i called it a day he did ring back a couple of months later it appears norfolk line shipped the trailers unaccompaniedand was taking to long to get there hey ho lifes a ■■■■■

Hi,I used to meet up with some of their drivers in Mutenz especially Kelly,Glen and brothers Mark and John,Hughy used to come out if they were a driver down,We used to run back together as far as Belgium but they used to run to Holland and catch a ferry from Scheivenen, they used to call me Think Bubbles transport because I used to trade as Aero Trucks. They were good times with a great bunch of drivers I used to run out with every week,I sometimes had to tip at Leimgruber - What a miserable bunch - was glad I mostly tipped at Prateln.I used to load at Metzger & Ritchner in Mutenz where we all used to meet up in the truck stop,I remember Mark used to like the Shweinshaxe in brown beer sauce.Hope they are all doing ok.My email is postmaster@mikepalmer3.plus.com

Hello Mike. The two brothers you mention, Mark and John. Did they run out of Erith / Dartford way? Also, did they run a blue tag axle 142 (A reg plate I think) with a blue step frame tilt? I did a one off, casual run to Swiss in the early 90`s for two brothers and im sure they were called Mark and John. Cant remember the name of the Swiss agent / transporter who they back loaded for, Eugenie maybe??
The 142 was a bit tatty but still pulled well and being a tag, it looked the part with the plain blue step frame on the back. No pics though :unamused: :unamused:

Used to run with the brothers on Pegasus from Lynn , quite often when we loaded for uniex in Yarmouth we would get the Norfolk line boat from there and if it was really rough would wake in morning and still see my house from the boat cause we didn’t sail , anyone remember Fred roper boys and jacksons did a bit of Swiss , used to like the restaurant upstairs in muttenz and sussie the waitress .

Mark and Hughie ran out of Kings Lynne. Para colours. For Universal Express ,Basel.

Fred was a good bloke.

And that Norfolk Line barge from scheveninger to Yarmouth sucked. Awful crew , terrible captain, gave the Dutch a bad name.

I think he was Fritz. Used to be an O.D with a White. But he got nicked in Germany being DD. He stopped at some lights and went to pull away when the gear stick came away in his hand . A cop car was behind him and when they went to see the problem he reeked of booze and was banned ,then went broke . He was a great lad on the road but completely changed when he drove the forklift . I used to be his mate but even I got big probs with him and had to talk to Paul Liembruber before I could get tipped. He was full of hate.

Remember the two forkies on export? Big young fella on massive fork for air freight pallets and an old guy on a smaller one. They were always ■■■■■■■ The young one killed a driver accidentley so the boss’s said no more drinking. The old guy couldn’t give it up so they sacked him. He got kicked out of the firms flat. He committed suicide because he couldn’t find another flat that would take his dog. Sad,because he was a first class forkie.

Hi , anybody have any photos of this company they ran Scania & Iveco units from Kings Lynn to Switerland & Europe , purple units & blue tilt trailers , many thanks Alan.

I remember them,but were’nt they maroon?

They were Para colour/marroon. The old man was in the Paras & asked permission to use their colours. I knew the bro’s ,Hughie & the other one.

The maroon beret is a military beret and has been an international symbol of elite airborne forces since it was chosen for British airborne forces in World War II. This distinctive head dress was officially introduced in 1942, at the direction of General Frederick Browning, commander of the British 1st Airborne Division.[1] The colour of the beret was reportedly chosen by his wife, the novelist Daphne du Maurier.[1] It was first worn by the men of the Parachute Regiment in action in North Africa during November 1942. Although maroon, the beret of the British Parachute Regiment is often known as the “red beret.”

Maroon,I was right.

The only purple trucks I could think of was Funstons.
