Pedestrian crossings

Whar are pelican and puffin crossings?

Road crossings explained - zebra, pelican, puffin and toucan crossings | RAC Drive

Hands up, I don’t know the exact difference between the different types we now have.
I do know to stop at red lights…what else really matters?

Also if there’s a chance of running someone down or knocking them over you really should try to avoid them-the paperwork is horrendous

Thanks Santa, who’d’ve thought crossing the road was so complex?

I think France and Italy among others were/are known for setting all traffic lights to flashing amber at night ? universally known as proceed with caution.
There’s flashing Green to denote stale be prepared to stop in Austria at least.

France some lights change to flashing amber at night and off peak times.

There would then normally be either give way or priority signs on the posts under the lights or no priority and so revert to priorité à droite the default.

Road works traffic lights in France have no green light, just red, amber, and flashing amber.

And a reminder for us all who think green means go
“GREEN means go IF THE WAY IS CLEAR. Take extra care if you intend to turn left or right, and give way to pedestrians who are crossing.”
UK Highway Code. Their capitals

In Italy, especially Sicilia red means
maybe slow down a bit, and maybe think about giving way?”

Sounds like western Sydney, SE Melbourne or anywhere in Cairns. :face_with_peeking_eye:

Ironically I can remember a bus behind me on the way through Palermo after leaving the ferry from Genoa.I got the full repertoire of air horns and headlights for taking the normal approach to the clearly already red traffic lights ahead.Leaving the choice of accelerate faster than him or the perfect storm of t boned both sides and a bus running over the wreckage from behind.
Also remembering the common foreign practice of no red and amber before green just red to green.

Puffin crossing is used by puffins.
Pelican crossing is used by pelicans

You need to be zoologist to cross the road.

Don’t forget tucan and zebra crossing as well
