Some old pics of the Pike taken by maintenance fitter Fred Walker and kindly supplied by Charlie Ridgeway. Pictures show an extraction plant being fitted to the Parker coating plant.

From the colours, and the ‘D M’ on the front, I reckon that is D M Shilton from Swadlincote, who I recall had at least one maroon Merc with a grey band.

A good few years ago I worked for a short spell for Alan Golisti at Midland Freight in Ashbourne. I remember he used to tell me that himself, Dave Bloor, Stuart Yates, Jeff Skellern, Billy Morritt and several others started their careers as O/D’s running to the Middle East in ‘the old days’. It hit Alan really hard when SAY went under, followed by Morritt International. Not many of them left in the business nowadays, tho.

Nice pics there, Dan - some good old motors and a couple I can remember, too.
It’s not a very clear pic, but the orange F86 - was that Hoveringham Stone, out of Dene? I recall them from my days there many many yonks ago!
