No Barry, I drove for STB at Ballidon. Did know a few Trim Rock tanker men though from my TILCON days but not by name.

Hiya…i remember we was trying to sort out who the albion belongs to.
I.ve just seen a hargreaves albion on the scrapbook site that has the same body as this albion
and a fleet number (number plate)on the front panel just under the windscreen

It was me who put the photo on John, the old Calver bridge over the Derwent.
At first I thought it was one of T W Wards, never thought of Hargreaves. The original photo shows fleet 73 and it looks like either WJ or WU in the reg which is either Sheffield WJ or West Riding WU.The only other one that springs to mind is Hinchcliffes from South Elmsall,Pontefract, they ran a lot of tippers out of Derbyshire in the 50s,they ran Albions.

Taken today while passing through Dove Holes

The next two are not to good really

A few for Windrush.

And does anyone have any info on this old girl seen in Chesterfield many moons ago?

Blimey Bonkey, you have done well with those pics! Much better than those bloomin Tar**c wagons that you have been inflicting on the forum ha ha. :unamused:
The driver stood by his 3000 series is the Late Basil “Dickey Bow” McCabe from Wirksworth, an ex Phillips driver who ran tandem on distance with Geoff “Big Tilley” Land (ex Loxleys from Bonsall) who drove the other wagon partly in shot, also now sadly passed away. Nice to see pics of lorries that I have driven, happy days.

Pete.

Here’s a Hinchcliffe Maudsley from the early 50’s all lettered up and ready to roll at Shining Bank.
Lent to me by a friend who drove for T.W.Wards at Shining Bank Quarry.

Shining Bank, the most mis-named quarry in the area as daylight was in short supply there let alone sunshine!! A good bunch of lads to work with though, I enjoyed my time working from there before Cemex pulled the plug on it.

Pete.

Here’s something to think about …
I can only think back to the early 60’s, but there’s one British lorry that seems to stand out as rarely being chosen as a tipper in the Peak area.
Let’s see who comes up with the make first …
B.D … Tarmac did try a small number of them though at one time, now that shouldn’t take long !!

Mike,I wonder if that’s the same Hinchcliffe from South Elmsall,Pontefract? I used to see their wagons regular in North Derbyshire heading towards Sheffield in the 50s.I notice that 8-legger has a “YG” Yorks West Riding reg so maybe it’s the same company registered with a Bakewell address.

Dont know! At our quarry there was (at various times) BMC, Bedford, Guy, Leyland, AEC, Foden, Dodge, Commer, Scammell, Seddon, Atkinson, ERF, Ford so that covers a lot of British metal?
Also Albion, how could I forget those bloomin things!
Pete.

Sorry,double post.

Well you took your time Pete :open_mouth:
GUY
I can only remember seeing Tarmac with a few Big J’s, Frank Brown’s of Stockport had some and Blue Circle had their old Invincible’s.
But why weren’t they more popular ? after all they had a mixture of components from Leyland, AEC, Foden, ERF, Atkinson, Scammell, didn’t they ? and they were all popular at the time.

Paul.
