Evening Larry ,it came from a dealer nr Preston with a px for a v8 ford D ,the back end was so high you could walk under the body as it was fitted with over slung springs to tip in a hopper for Tilcon ,father had some straight springs made in Sheffield and put blocks on the front axle to level it up ,the springs had to be changed again as they buckled nr Reeth when going up a steep hill overloaded with fluorspar ,it carried 17 ton at 24 ton gross ,regards Dan .

I drove one identical to that one also on a B plate Dan with a payload of 9 ton 16 cwt at 14 ton gross.
Cheers Dave.
There were several of those early TKās in BALLIDON white livery parked up on the bank out of service when I started there in 1975, I assume that they were eventually scrapped. They (TILCON) did have two TK tippers used internally with the 466 engine bought in 1973, one of my first jobs was to fit a new crankshaft in one that had fallen into a hopper and the engine seized through lack of oil. Bob Weywell drove it I think, it was used to feed the block plants before being replaced with an Atkinson dumper and later a Foden S80, both driven by the Late Roy (BEZ) Beresford from Ashbourne.

Ballidon had one of those Dan, and a Chaseside when I started there. They were replaced with JCBās.
Pete.
Topley Pike quarry around 1984. Anyone know the make of the wagon heading towards the exit in the second shot? Iām thinking a Foden S83.

Thinking on John I believe that it was Andrew Brassingtonās Dodge that Mick bought and not Ianās. There were a heck of a lot of four wheelerās in Ballidon back then, now where did all that work vanish to eh!
Pete.
Being a newcomer to this site but I donāt remember Andrew Brassington with a Dodge but here is the Ford I sold him and another one he bought from Cyril Billings
What a lovely well proportioned little lorry , is Cyril the
Father of the Billings that hauled for Gypsum from Fauld then
Barrow on Soar,?
Rastone did you sell Ford commercials for TC Harrison if so you may
Have come across my father inlaw Derek Farren who worked for Paynes
At Hinckley ?

Could well have been a Ford and not a Dodge (all looked the same to me! ) that Mick bought off Andrew, it was yellow at least! I think the last Fords operating at Ballidon supplied by TCH were the two Cargo six wheelers on a G plate, one is still around, that I believe Dave Mackenzie who owns a garage locally sold?

Yes Cyril had a few in Gypsum, one driver John Woodings was a bloke who could sheet and rope,it never looked as if he had the load off.Cyril said he used to stack each bag.He drove a Dodge artic an then Ford DA800 and the a Ford 2417 and Edgar Bentley had one too.
Now Mr Farren --What a good bloke. He used to start work at 6.a.m. but did have a long dinner hour.I often talk about him with Andy Hillyard who was with Iveco Ford and now with Scania.Didnāt he deal in spuds in retirement.Very good bloke and down to earth. What a pity there arenāt many people like him around now.
A big and sad loss
Tony
