Dan Punchard:
Is anyone going to the Darley Dale transport festival at Friden September 20/21st either on foot or exhibiting?
I normally exhibit there Dan but as they have altered the date this year I am booked elsewhere. I hope that the new venue works out OK for everyone, and dont forget the low bridge at Friden!
Pete.
Iām just waiting for some bright spark to organise a rally at Froghall in the middle of winter.

About ten tons in the back & she should be able to tow the others out of Froghall!
rigsby:
that green and yellow scammel under the plant looks like one of the grin quarry motors , they were painted in limmer and trinidad colours when tarmac took them over . when grin had them new they had super singles on the drive axles , horrible ride and skittish in the wet .
Thanks for that Rigsby mate. Any idea on the Routeman in the last pic? Looks to be in Allinson colours though I thoughts they had AECs at that time?

Dan, one rolled in similar circumstances the week I got married, we were in the garden and watched it all happen! That would be March 1975, think that it was a Guy Big J, I guess the driver couldnāt control the Gardner 240 power?
Pete.
Keep it down! Youāll get him out from under his stone again.
Fine pics there Moose!! Took me a while to get my bearings in that first pic, I guess the plant in the bottom left is what became I 4 for loading tankerās? I do remember when the agg lime shed etc was where the new weighbridge is now, and the conveyer going past the rear of the bottom garage. Way before my time, but I heard tales about that Trojan van and the little Muir-Hill dumpers from some of the old lads, you can hardly believe that it became about the second largest quarry in Derbyshire. Would love to go back and see it now but Iām afraid the present management wouldnāt allow that, I nipped up to Dales garage a year or two ago and was surrounded by security staff as soon as I got out of the van! Then again I only worked there for 27 yearsā¦ Any more pics about?
Pete.
not got a lot of pics myself, i remember the old tar plant as when I was a kid it was used to load wet mix, my grandfather used to drive the rb on the face or the dragline taking off the overburden
my dad thinks these pics date from around 1955/9 as my grandfather set up with a 4 wheeler soon after
I was just thinking they used to drop a good few thousand ton in I go, then set about moving it with muir hill dumpers!

Carted plenty of wetmix Moose, Clarence Weston could gauge it spot on for weight! One of the last jobs we did with it was the track at Don Valley Stadium as Tarmacs wetmix didnāt meet the required standard. We also took it to a few depots around Brum for trench filling, it was good stuff and some surfacing gangs used it as basecourse through paver. Then it suddenly went out of fashion!
