Yes John, I believe that the ‘nice’ Folk Singer Mike Harding was partly instrumental (no pun intended) in getting the quarry closed down on ‘environmental’ issues. :unamused:
I like the Longcliffe pics, only known them as painted blue and white. Did the occasional load for them, when I was desperate! Do you have any of their Norde, apart from the one I posted a good while ago?

Pete.

Sorry Pete I haven’t mate,I found these on the net while having a snoop about, but will keep my eyes open for you,you never know whats on the Internet these days. :unamused:
A couple here I found photographed by Stephen Potter (smugmug site)

Wasn’t one of the instructors Gordon Thorpe, from the family that owned Norman Thorpe Transport Ltd of Holloway, I am sure it was him who taut me. I passed my class II there in January 1971 after a weeks course on the 6w Dodge.

Yes Gordon Thorpe.I’m sure Gordon finished up at Tarmac in Dene on a Foden in the 80s, must be well retired now.
Mike.

I read these pages and I remember things that I forgot years and years ago!!

I got my class one there in 1969 or 70 and Gordon was my instructor. Norman Thorpe (very smart maroon or brown four-wheelers as I recall) was his brother.

Some of Lomas Distribution taken today when passing through Buxton.

Plus what used to be Beswick Lime Quarry (dont know if the name has changed over the years)

Any of you Buxton lads know which quarry this is. Not the best pictures sorry

Hi first time on here, just to say my dad and his twin brother used to drive for Beatties,Brian and Keith Campbell, the days when I could jump in the cab and go with him over to Barnsley which seemed miles them days

Hi Leeman if you go onto page 2 and scroll down to Sherrans & other Manchester firms you will see a few photos of Beattie lorries on there which I put on.I sometimes used to go with a neighbour of ours in the 60s called Sylvester Fagan who drove for them for years.
Oh and by the way welcome to trucknet and enjoy.

The bottom two pics are Tunstead quarry taken from the top of Topley Pike hill. The bottom pic shows the new cement plant to the left that opened around ten years ago replacing the old Blue Circle plant near the weighbridge.

Also nice pic of Beswicks. I always call it Staveley as that’s who owned it in 1979, the first time I went in the place in a Routeman to pick up a load of chatter for a local farm.

Also added a comment on your pic on Flickr Stanny mate.

Cheers for that BD I have past it and seen it in the distance a few times but couldn’t place it.And then you go down the road a little and come to Topley Pike on your left.

Have we had this one on before. One of Sammy flyers.

Nice one -
Has he still got the Foden S85 wrecker down at the bottom of the yard?

Hi fryske
I didnt go down the yard I stood talking to him for ages at the gate and he was telling me about the old Reivers he bought off Staveley Lime which belonged to Beistys and also a couple of the Scammells that Staveley got from Beistys which he streched for them to make them 26 tonners. Also he has a brand new DAF unit painted in the maroon like the Foden and just waiting for the sign writer to do his job this weekend and it is going on the road in July.I asked if I could call in again next time I am passing and get a photo hopefully.
cheers John (Stanfield)

Another oldie from the Hazelcroft fleet of yesteryear found on the dreaded ebay.
Hazelcroft FODEN Derbyshire Rider.JPG
