Peak deck

Got a simple question for the car guys on here. Are the old style peak deck transporters still legal? I haven’t seen one for a long time.

I did see one a few months ago being pulled by a Daf 105, I’m sure it was from the north east and something to do with car auctions.

Don’t hold me to this, my understanding is that existing kit is still ok, but it must be in the hands of the operator who was still using the kit before they were banned, if they can still find a driver prepared to give it a go.

No new builds and even if you wanted, say a new but skilled operator such as regular driver buying own vehicle, to buy an old one, then no…though i can’t see how they would know about this.

I liked them a lot, once you got used to them they were the most stable transporter ever put on the road and simple as can be to use, increasingly the danger came from clueless double decker bus wheel attendants in cities putting their vehicles and contents into the line of fire.
My record from arriving at a rental site to leaving, 3 deck Transporter Engineering Van Carrier, unstrapping and unloading 9 cars with the yardies waiting at the bottom of the ramps to take them away was 9 minutes, brilliant robust trouble free design.

No i haven’t see one for a good while, as Twoninety88, there was a poster here on auction work not so long ago still using one, carrying auction cars is probably where they’ll still be found.

I was driving this, a couple of years ago, having never driven a peak before. The company never said anything about the legalities of it though.

Could be interesting. I’ve never driven one and our company looking for one at the moment

Be very careful going out with a peak if you’ve never driven one before as they take a bit of getting used to, turning left has to be negotiated differently and turning right you’ll lose sight of where the peak is going
