PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Some more photos of the construction of the Fleetbridge rounabout and flyover.

Building the flyover. I like the ladder.

NCK Ransome Rapier crane on the left with a Ruston Bucyrus crane on the right hand side. Possibly a County tractor in the middle ?
Not sure what make the excavator is in the middle.

The compressor trailer in this pic were a common sight on jobs like this.A spec sheet for a similar one powered by a Rolls
Royce diesel is below the pic.

Fowler Welch DAF.

Think it says PTM on the door ■■

Dont remember having a Express Ashphalt motor on before, anyone know anthing about them ■■

Dont think we have had a KSD motor on before from Nuneaton.

Anyone recognise the Scania ■■ Reckon he would be weight limit here as the company i know who have similar 8 wheelers with
large cranes behind the cab can only carry about 8/9 toms due to the body / crane being so heavy.

Anyone know where the DG Logistics DAF is based ■■

J.J.Field DAF from Dudley.

Anyone know where the Cartwright Bros Volvo is based ■■

Tidy DAF of Philson Haulage. I think someone mentioned a while back that they had finished.

Roadways Container Logistics from ■■

I imagine the Scania and Iveco are both owner drivers ? Parked up at Creekmoor in Poole.

Anyone know anything about the TT DMI DAF ■■

R.H.Roadstone Leyland Octopus could do with some paint to tidy it up.

Dont recognise the colour scheme on the cement mixer ■■ Seen here at Canford Heath,Poole.

Ryvita DAF returning to its base in Parkstone,Poole.

Dennis Fall Volvo F7 from Ferndown.

Anyone read the name on the trailer ,something of Poole so possibly Cutlers of Poole.

Atlas Express Ford Cargo.Seen here in Poole, not sure where they were based ■■

Anyone recognise the White Road Commander 2 ■■

Atlas express was a parcel carrier with depots nation wide and a good place to work

I remember KSD starting up in the Nuneaton area, he had a few second hand tippers working out of the various quarries around Nuneaton and at Mancetter. A large concern nowadays.

We had a Rolls engine compressor at the quarry, it wasn’t brilliant and I believe they later had one powered by either a ■■■■■■■ or Detroit. Plant machinery yended to have a limited life, the times when I went out to a seized engine; “It’s got plenty of oil in it squire” and when the oil was dipped it was totally clean so had never been around the engine and had been poured in after it seized! :unamused: The little Lister engined truck that they used to fill the hopper on the block plant ran away and ended up in the hopper, I dragged it out and found both front duisc brakes covered in oil. “I poured oil over them as they were squealing” was the answer.

Pete.

Hi Dean

Simon Guppy sent these of the Commer and Foden they still have in their yard.

They used to run into Shanks a lot, one of the very few firms you saw with Indian drivers. Motors always looked a bit rough back then.

Cartwright bros come from Lincoln, think they been going for donkey years

Thanks for your comments, not sure where the closest depot to Poole would have been, maybe somewhere like Southampton ?

Popped an article on about Atlas back on page 515 for anyone intrested.

Heres one of there Leylands in an advert from 1958.

Thanks for the comments Pete. You cant make it up but i can believe what you are saying about people not checking the oil and then
when its too late pouring fresh in to try and cover there tracks. Like you say its obvious that its fresh oil when you check it.
In that pic there was a smaller compressor which was pumping water out, would that be a Lister do you think ■■

Unfortunately some tipper drivers give all tipper drivers a bad name. :unamused: But i know exactly what you are saying some drive like total
morons, while others are fine. I dont know, but get the impression that some get paid per load so thats why they rush around like lunatics. :unamused:

This specially built Bernard also had an all-aluminium cab. 1956.

Carrying on with the road building and Fleetsbridge roundabout and flyover.

The road that exits the roundabout in the direction of Creekmoor and Upton rises up hill and over a bridge that the railway used to run
underneath.Today a road runs under it which goes past the retail park on the RHS and joins the Holes Bay road.

This is what the concrete bridge looks like today carring the dual carrigeway that connects to the flyover over the roundabout.

Click on photos for a sharper pic.

Pics of the new bridge being built.

This shot shows the original roundabout whilst the new one is being constructed on the RHS. Apart from the Foden crane in the
distance there are some classic old cars in this shot.

Construction of the actual flyover which was started on each side and the middle section completed last.

Some more classic cars in this shot. Look how narrow the tyres are on these cars ?

Possibly one of LCM’s DAF’s from Sturminster Marshall.

Elliotts Transport from Poole. Think the MAN was taken in there yard.

Anyone know where Stokes Transport’s yard was in Poole ■■

There must have been an awful lot of cheap blue paint about in the 70s & 80s a yet another random blue tipper ■■?

A classic shot taken when The Holes Bay road was being built. I imagine the old Albion was an owner driver. One of Stretch Transports
F7 on the weighbridge behind and a Wimpey Ford D series on the right, well part of one.

Anyone recognise the well used ERF just arriving in Poole ■■ Looks like the bumper has been repaired and been ■■■■■■ again ! :unamused:
The Ford D series of Country Eggs cant get any closer ,accident waiting to happen.

Powys Transport DAF which looking at the mirror i assume moved caravans ■■

Anyone know where the Steel Bar & Sections ERF was from ■■ Thats some bumper on the front. Calor Gas and Henleys sometimes fitted
those bumpers on ERF’s.

Anyone recognise the Crusader seen at the Great Dorset Steam Fair ■■ Looks like an early Transit behind.

Not had a S&D Adam motor on before. Says International Transport on the front, anyone know anything about them ■■

They had a depot in Newhaven not sure if any others that was one we used to trunk to on a night

The blue erf (with the wonky bumper) driver is truly living the dream, ■■■■■■■ engine, sleeper cab, airhorn, wheel trims, cb aerial, tir plate and lots of stickers.

What a great photo.

Keep them coming please Dean.
