No idea where the Hendy Hill ERF livestock truck is from ■■

Hi Dean. Hendy and Hill were a Bristol based abattoir that failed many years age, I can’t remember the year, probably early to mid 80’s. I was owed a what to me was a fair amount at the time, but as it was just under £1000, I did nor even get listed as a trade creditor, just included in sundries. That was the last meat company I ever worked for. From then on either the farmer or the buyer had to pay! Lesson learned.

Think it says Trevor Morris on the Seddon Atkinson ■■

G.L.Baker Guy from Faversham i think. Looks like he normally pulls a flat bed looking at all the sheet’s on the roof sheet rack.

W.H.Geer Foden from Parkstone who’s yard was off Sea View rd and you had to back in off the main road between 2 houses.

“Dorset” Dave Corbin’s DAF 2800 seen with one of his traction engines onboard.

I remember when Sam Polley had those.

Hi Dean
Thanks for those pictures, can’t remember Priors would of been after my time. We’re Broadbanks in Kennington Rd on the Nuffield where W&S are now? I might be just imagining that. The reiver looks a little similar to the ones EG Hoare would of run at Ferndown. They did all the excavations at Corbins for the base of the frag! A lot of steel and a lot of concrete

What is the 1920s looking tractor unit? I am guessing Leyland or Scammell?

Yes its a Scammell Pete, not sure what model.

Thanks Dean. I see it has Gillingham location. I recognise that village name from diving of the A303 to miss heavy traffic.

elsa Lad:
“smallcoal” Ttx were bought out by tdw or owens as I recall or may be nolans

Yes Nolan took it over when the firm went under. Not sure what TTX stood for but it was owned by the Taylor family and the x I think stood for express.

Probably got it totally wrong again
Simon

Morning John / Simon, Heres one of Nolan’s when they must have just taken over TTX as pulling one of there trailers.

Casual Observer:
Looks like one of Whites gravel pits old F86 which has been sold on. Whites had a fair few different colour schemes over the years.

Looks like another ex Sam Anderson F 86 .

XGB 530S, another F 86 with exact same style of body was posted earlier in thread, still bearing remnants of Anderson’s livery

Thanks for your comments chap. They may have bought the odd second hand motor but i am pretty sure they normally bought new as they were a big old concern and have a fair few in that colour scheme, heres a few of them ?

You could be right about Broadbanks i have no idea to be honest as never really went around the Industrial estates as a kid. I was
discussing Hoare with steam the other day as we were not sure where they were based and thought probably Ferndown Ind Estate ■■

Trouble is with anything that says Wimborne is that the area the post code covers is very large for the size of the town and the actual companies can be 10 miles away on some farm in the middle of no where !

Great shot of the fleet parked up.

Alot of companies had a mixed fleet although the Dodge seemed a favourite of Polley’s its nice to see the Bedford TK
and Ford D series. I assume the 2 AEC’s are Mercury’s if they are 4 wheelers and looks like a Dennis Pax.

What was the Dennis like ■■

Heres a spec sheet for the Dennis Pax.

Here we have yet another random blue tipper running around Poole. Anyone recognise it ■■

Yeoman Leyland coming into Poole down Gravel Hill.

Churchfields Seddon Atkinson at the Steam Fair.

Stretch Transport Volvo F7 from Wareham. No idea how many they operated but they liked them, although i expect the
F7 was probably the largest selling 8 wheeler tipper by then.

Wim Vos Volvo F10.

Air products Seddon Atkinson 401.

Symphony Furniture DAF. I imagine he has just come out of the Redlands old site which was a retail outlet with a couple of
large furniture stores.

A one off, Shamara’s Scammell Samson which was originally owned by Pickfords.

“Dorset” Is this the garage you were talking about at Upton ■■

You could be right there Dean but around this way the transit or equivalent is still the preferred choice amongst the trades, plumbers, tilers, builders etc so it’s surprising how many of those there are, my son in law is a plasterer now and has a transit, we’ve just had a lot of work done in our bungalow, heating, bathroom, kitchen, fireplace and a small amount of building work and without exception everyone had a transit or equivalent.

Moreys DAF concrete mixer from Ringwood.

GB Express Mercedes heading to Poole ferry terminal.

Heres one for my old mucker Pete Smith as its one of his favourite operators. We have had a fair few of Leonard Crane’s

Forest Freight are from
Rainham, Essex, which is on the outskirts of London. Im not sure if they’ve always been at Rainham but the London phone codes covered a large area outside of the actual city

They are and are still going strong I believe.

Hi Dean just to confirm J & W tipper hire were from Sandy lane, Fairoak as stated by RTD, formerly owned by a friend of mine Chris Collins, they worked out of the old sand pit in Sandy lane and an interesting story there after that a mate of us both want the level of a ten acre field to be raised so they worked together, J &W took hundreds of tons of waste in there then capped it off with half decent topsoil, the locals did not like the extra lorry traffic and complained all the time. Now the best bit, my mate who owned the field had some chap approach him in the pub to do some metal detecting with his group, well the tenner a head swayed my mate and so it took place but after three hours one of the group came out and asked my mate if there had ever been a tip there, well he replied I been here 35 years and not to my knowledge so he drove off with his rusty old fork his only treasure he found. My mate gad 250 quid for the pleasure and so ends my tale, Buzzer

PS. every time J&W got fined for overweight the next ten loads were loaded over to pay the fine

I probably missed something in the conversation, but what exactly is this truck? The surrounding looks definitely British, but the truck Japanese. Thanks…

Once in my life, I had to handle such a trailer with a detachable axle. A nightmare to put back into place!

I don’t know if Hedgeman sold to Barry Crooke but he owns the former Hedgeman yard on Portland which he rents to Hump and Dump skips as a transfer station.
