Hi Dean, The BKG Mercedes-Benz could be from Romsey, The phone number on the

Thanks Ray.
Buzzer:
Dean found this interesting old advert, Buzzer
Back in the 60s most sizeable towns had body builders. Its amazing how many there actually were, and even where i live we had
a body builder called Bundy’s who would build a tipper body one week and the next job would to be a pantecnicon. The workers
must have been unbelievably skillful and turn there hand to anything. All that craftmanship now sady gone. Good advert Buzzer.
The D Jenkins & Sons { Don Jenkins } DAF come from the village of Felinfach approx half way between Lampeter and Aberaeron on the A482 They used to haul cheese from the factory in Felinfach They run a few wagons and do storage
Hi Dean
brilliant work with the thread as usual
Coles removals are from NE London and have a fantastically turned out fleet. Immaculate and real old school look.A credit to all involved.
This isn’t a Tank by the way chaps, it’s an Abbot 105mm Self propelled Gun, the Gun I served on when I joined my unit in Germany 1972. Still recall the reg no 07 EB 74, my older Brother was the Gun Commander and I the Gun Layer, setting the sights etc. An excellent piece of kit it had a Rolls Royce opposed piston multi-fuel engine at 240bhp and the Gun had a max range of 15km and a rate of fire between 6-8 rounds per minute, depending on the skill of the six man crew. There seems to be quite a few sold into private hands including the one I mentioned. Good memories Franky.

Thanks for the comments Franky. i take it you were in the Tank Regiment ? Were you based at Bovington Camp our of intrest ?
Will pop some Army stuff on over the next few days.
Hi Dean.
Transcare were distributors for Marks and Spencer, maybe part of Tibbet and Britten or National Carriers but not certain about that. The Sed Atki 300 tanker looks like it carries “Genklene” which was a dry cleaning agent made by ICI.It has a Leeds reg so maybe Tankfreight.
Hi Dean
Nice lot of pictures, not sure if macbar had a bit of a yard on Nuffield ind estate
Think the Daf may of been on marks and spencer or st Michael (as it was known) contract and probably based at Thatcham.
Don’t think the blue Volvo was one of Eatons for a change unless steam can correct me!

That one is the Scimitar, a light Recce tank, these would be forward of the heavier Tank Regiments, very fast and nippy. I was in the Royal Artillery, we did use Tanks but they were known as OP Tanks for Observation Post, reporting back targets to the Guns for them to fire on, known as Indirect Fire as the enemy would not be in view of the Guns and Direct Fire the term used when engaging enemy positions Tanks or Armour when they could be seen. The Self Propelled Guns such as the Abbot gave artillery support to Infantry and Armoured units in a Battlegroup. The Guns needed to be Self Propelled basically meaning mechanised as opposed to towed Artillery, to keep up with our Armoured units, these were always used in Germany as part of the NATO defences. Lighter towed artillery tended to be based in the UK and available to be air transported anywhere in the world if needed, hence the Latin motto of the Royal Artillery Ubique, meaning Everywhere. I was based in Germany, Catterick and Aldershot where my unit did a Parachute support role and was involved in the Falklands War although I had left about a year before this but my older Brother who was in the same Regiment went. The 40th Anniversary of that conflict will be in April this year. Franky.
That’s Roger Gool- Aka Roger Rabbit.
I made the fuel tanks for Roger on that FH, as pictured on the inside cover of Long Haul Pioneers.
I also made tanks for a 143 that he ran too - I think Ro might have done a trip to the gulf in that one…
Thanks Dean, that is a picture of my Dad, who was based at Hamble until 1993. Prior to this he was at both Gloucester and Bridgewater depots, which both closed down. Another picture of same lorry.

Yes! I did run with one of Rabbit’s FHs; and on another trip I encountered Roger driving (I think) the 143. We were queueing to get into Syria from Turkey.
