Dont think we have had a Gentransco motor on before, anyone know where they were based ■■

I believe Gentransco are or were from Buckinghamshire somewhere Dean

  Cheers Kempston.

Kempston:
ARC operated alot of Volvo FL10 8 wheelers. The FL10 was very popular as an 8 wheeler and from memory they became the biggest selling 8 wheeler
in the UK.

Shanks ran quite a few Dean but I have to say I preferred my Daf, the Volvo was very cramped inside and on breaks you couldn’t recline the seats hardly at all, with my Daf I could recline it nicely and spread my legs out, performance wise neither was any better than the other imo, downside again with the Volvo was that it was nearly a ton heavier unladen so had to be careful on certain jobs.

Thanks for the comments and pics Kempston.

Boughton’s who make the roll off roll on gear in your pics seem to have changed names a few times over the year’s looking at these adverts etc.
I assume they have been taking over a few times ?

I well recall that Seddon 200 BHP 8 LXB which Malc bought second hand but he didn’t rate it one bit and it was soon sold to Ratclifes at Newton le Willows who IIRC dealt it on to Waddies in N. Wales. Long time ago though ! Cheers Dennis.

I could well be wrong, but I think that might Lenham Storage - they did European work back in the 70’s, and Gentransco was a European freight forwarder back in the day- I think it ended up as part of Danzas.

Cheers all,

Keith

Amazing how things have changed Dennis, when you consider most artics are around the 500 bhp or higher mark these days.

Hi Dean.
I delivered Perchloroethane to Penetone at Cramlington in late 70s but I didn’t know they ran their own transport.
I remember that product well as you only needed 1600 gallons for 20 tons,a very dense liquid.
