Steel haulage.

Shotton Steel Works - John Summers 1967.

Click on pages twice to read.

Article from 1978.

These commercial motor magazines from the 70s are too large for the scanner so on the first page the first letter is missing
on the first paragraph and the last letter on the last paragraph on the second page. Perfectly readable.

Malcolm Cotterell operated this tidy Bedford TM.1976.

Hi Dean, a Mainland car delivery driver operating a ‘Transporter Engineering’ outfit identical to the one pictured, was telling me that MCD could no longer order that specification. The wider axles on the trailer (for getting vans on) made the outfit over width for c & u regs. Ministry of transport said they could keep the ones they had, but any further purchases would need to comply with c& u regs. So the driver said.

As Kempston said, Bridmin were at Minworth just out of Birmingham. They also hired out suction tankers.

Already Christmas here, and 42c at 11:30am in WA’s mid west.
Merry Christmas to everyone on trucknet, good health to all.
Colin.

Merry Christmas Colin! Stay safe. Wishing you a peaceful day.

Merry Christmas Rowena. Bet you got one of these from Santa…

Hi Dean, The R&D motors from Cardiff were iirc run by two of the sons of the late Don Simons who was one early hauliers out of Port Talbot steelworks. I think they were Raymond and Donald junior but the D could be
David the eldest son. They are still operating out of Celsa steel in Cardiff but they are now Central Garages.
The 86 Volvo I think belonged to Bill Price from Monmouth
Regards, Allan

Hi Allen ,ray is still running the business, don passed away ages ago ,dai passed away about 4 years ago I shunted for them in the abbey, their yard is on the corner of rhymney rd wentloog

Small Coal,
Hello John,
I knew Dai had passed away. When you say Don passed away ages ago did you mean the old man .
I remember Don loading a LAD cabbed Octopus in the Abbey many years ago and he always had a dog with him, a terrier I think. It would’nt let you near the cab. As I say that was a long long time ago.
Regards, Allan

Looks rough for a wagon that would have been only a few years old.
