Hi Dean.
Morrisons took Safeway over in 2004.

DEANB:
Anyone know where the C.P.Davidson AEC was from ■■

Davisons were originally from Heskin which is near Chorley in Lancashire. Their novelty at one time was an A Series ERF tractor which had been converted into a Chinese Six. It had a 14 litre ■■■■■■■ engine in it, and could catch pigeons - loaded or otherwise. They latterly had the Iveco Seddon-Atkinson franchise in Chorley itself - the signage for which is still on the side of the building they occupy on Lyons Lane in the town.

E.F.phillips Octopus not far from there yard in Parkstone,Poole.

I guess the Octopus has the high datum cab at last only several years too late?

Pete, Have a look at page 295 i popped alot on about the Octopus.

My uncle had an Octopus and use to carry spare injector pipes as they were prone to braking when the engine was working very hard
and he had to replace a fair few over the years. I remember him telling me a place where it happened several times was going up
Chiddeock, the steep hill at Bridport. Use to have to stop to engage crawler going up loaded !

Good morning, re: HS Williams I believe that back in the day they operated from a yard which was situated in Whitchurch just past Truckers ( if it’s still called that ) heading towards Ross. The garage I believe was opposite the pub which is still there. After that the yard was on the old road and part of it could be seen on the right just before Truckers
Regards, Allan

Hi all,
Spoke with my old mate Paul East today,His dad drove for Ross Roadways for years,Apparently Ross bought H.S.Williams around 1982,kept two lorries and the work.Ran with two company names from then onwards…
Regards Andrew.
H S Williams’s yard was in ross on wye adjacent to where morrisons supermarket is now. the BRS yard was next door right where the supermarket is now.

Thanks for the info Bob.

Dry Aggregates does not ring a bell, anyone know where they were based ■■

G.Farwell Leyland Constructor from Lymington.

Daz, Reckon this is an owner driver on the new road when it was being built in Poole. Some damage to the n/s front.

When I worked in Reading we used to service the fleet of BMC FGK 60’s that J. Marr had based at their Hook depot, they were rather smelly!

Pete.

Thanks Dean. It shows just how important Leyland was in that era as an engine manufacturer. Makes you want to weep and throw in AEC and Gardner as well and at the lower end Ford (built in UK). I guess the USA but UK sold plant was Leyland for the market? Perhaps Detroit or ■■■■■■■ in the USA?
