I don’t recognise the mighty Bedford of which you speak, but I’d guess it was someone fairly local if they were loading a Lancashire flat. Your photo is of Barber’s of Mitcham, who were a reasonably-sized outfit.

There are hundreds of cracking Preston Dock photos on a Flickr channel called Preston Digital Archive but, unfortunately, its settings preclude sharing photos across to here. I do agree that it looked better as a working dock, and here are some other views:

Hi Steve the one in Scotland mate tipped dundee then loaded fife by the fourth bridge for glasgow then parked up on a702 loaded gretna Wednesday morning

Hi Dean the blue maggie is not ex Donoghue motor not too sure who owned that one great old photo as always the Scammell Routeman tipper might have been ex matthews group from Crawley in sussex.PS by the way dean have you gents got any photos of Rutland Haulage which were based in Kings Cross north london many thanks again for the fab pictures kind regades Daz :smiley: :slight_smile:

They were flour millers from Exeter. They were acquired by Associated British Foods and joined Allied Mills. Their operations were absorbed into those of J Healings of Tewkesbury.

Hi Dean, No thats not one of Eatons, looks like Drinkwater Sabey colours but without the signwriting.

Dont think we have had a S.Smith motor on before,says continental transport on the front so possibly heading for Truckline ferry as less than a mile from
the port. Anyone know where Smith’s were based ■■

Hi Dean ,Motorway remoulds were from Knighton Powys ,the site has now been flattened ,regards Keith

Dams were from the Liverpool area, I think they did office furniture but may be wrong
