when i worked at Ferrymasters desborough i got seconded to the Felixstowe depot for a week and that’s where they booked me in for the whole week , would have been around 1976 i suppose , i would only have been around 20 years old , mind you it was better than the fortnight they put me through at the altrincham head office, 7th floor no opening windows and working with 2 chain smokers , old norman at felixstowe was a much better bet.

Hey up Dean spent many a night out at the Routemaster it was getting very dated by the 90s
If you wanted a shower there they would give a rose off a watering can to screw on to the shower fixing (honestly)
Also if you wanted a bath they’d give you a master key to open any of the bathrooms as most were unused it was on a chain attached to a piece of wood
The food was great all freshly cooked
Happy memories thanks for posting the advert
Thanks Gary

The name on the door of the Dutton Transport Leyland is D.T. & N. Keighley Ltd. They were all the same, when Joe Keighley started in business he traded as Dutton Transport, due to being based in the small village of Dutton between Clitheroe and Longridge. Later when his sons Derek and Neville took over and expanded they formed the limited company but continued to trade as Dutton Transport, so the two names.

Hi Dean,
The Tube Investment Bedford has a Wolverhampton reg on it so I would presume it worked out of the Seamless Tube Co. in Wednesfield, now demolished and replaced by Tata Steel park. The Bedford would have been blue and likely to have been supplied by Attwoods the local Bedford dealer, Cheer’s Pete

One of Hanson’s (late Sam Longson) Seddon Atki lime tankers going t’other way , I think on the m50 .

Pete,
Was it Joseph Foulkes from Wednesfield that worked out of Seamless Tubes?

The ERF is turning on to Riverway off the A518 Weston road Stafford, could have just been to Dorman engine factory or heading to GEC? Cheer’s Pete

Ex BRS Overland Dean, I think it was TN member Sandman Norman who used to drive it?

vwvanman0:
The marathon was Tom Varleys from Gisburn, he used it to pull his steam engines around, he was a big name in the steam scene, he imported an Atkinson from Australia i think,i remember the marathon used to park at Todber caravan park, probably in the 1980s, it was indeed ex brs overland, i remember it looked rusty towards the end then it disappeared, but that was probably late 80s.

Steve

This was lhd, but there seems to be a steering wheel on the rhd side too!?!? Odd.

Thanks for the details about the Marathon. Well spotted about the steering wheels, most odd ■■ :unamused:

Kempston, According to the paperwork i have they were from Amersham,Buckinghamshire although they may have moved to Wolverhampton

You are absolutely correct Dean, I think I even went to their factory down there once to have something done but can’t remember what. Definitely have a place at Wolverhampton though.

They have a factory in Wolverhampton on the old Boulton Paul aircraft manufacturing site about a mile away from where I live. They MAY have been part of Reynolds Boughton who once produced those 4 wheel drive Dodge 50 series?

Sound about right Pete !

Paul has spent ages trying to get the best images he can but obviously there is alot of deteriation in the original negatives.
Overall he has done a great job even getting a picture when you see what he had to work with.

Both Paul’s and your efforts are much apprecated, Dean, thank you both!

To give you an idea Chris, here is one of the negatives. :unamused:

Lovely to finally see a DAF 2800 of All Seasons’s. This one is from there Basingstoke depot but they operated several out of there
Blandford mill and used to tip there alot as a kid. Poxy Capri geing in the pic.

Anyone know anyhing about the Gisburn Marathon ,seen here at the steam fair where it was used to pull a tracion engine. Very distinctive
looking motor so someone on here must recognise it ■■ Intresting to see it has an air con unit on the roof so did it do the middle east ■■

Hi Chris,
Yes Foulkes did most if not all of the work out of the Seamless but TI may have had a couple of their own on the job but it may have worked out of another TI site in the Black Country, no one to ask around here now!

The M50 ain’t got 3 lanes, could be the top of the M5 looking at that bridge? Cheer’s Pete

Brain cells are dying off now , that arch bridge stirred a vague memory , 20years since I ventured that far south Pete . Every time I go anywhere the roads are altered , not hard to confuse me these days .

Dave,
The architecture of that bridge is the same as on the M50, I cannot place it on the M6 either. I may be wrong about the M5 as that was only 2 lanes north of Bromsgrove Jcn 4 and cannot place a bridge of that design!

“Chris Webb” “DEANB” No replies about the Atkins / subby Fiat ■■ :unamused:

Hi Dean.
The Atkins liveried Fiat has a RR Nottingham reg and is called “The Lincolnshire Poacher”,so will more than likely be a subbie. I do recall seeing something similar at their depot at Findern Derby in 70s,a subbie’s name on headboard.

Hi Dean, do you remember me asking if you had a copy of a Long Distance Diary about a Berrisford’s or it might of been an Atkins motor going out to Hungary sometime in the seventies. Well it must of been an Atkins motor as the driver made a remark about the rego being a T-cup BRA and I am now thinking that he was driving a Fiat.
I have been looking back through hundreds of Trucknet posts and I now think that it was Trucknet user Dreva or Bubbleman who posted the story which has now been deleted.
It must be out there somewhere.

Yes i do remember your post and i did put a LDD on page 546 although it was not the one you are on about. I dont remember one of Atkins or
Beresfords doing a LDD to Hungary but i could be wrong. :unamused:

Hi Dean, yes enjoyed Routemaster on a regular basis when taking Seatrain containers to Felixstowe driving for Humber McVeigh from Salford, used to relish a hot bath with endless hot water and of course the crack around the bar where millions of miles were driven!
Good days.

Just had a look on google maps and it looks like the building is still there and the end nearest the roundabout looks to be in use but the
far end is boarded up. Sleeper cabs put an end to it i suppose. :unamused:
