Chris Webb:
Hi Dean.
That AEC Mandator could well be one of Nixons from West Bromwich area,Pete Smith will know better than me.The blue ERF tipper with Walsall reg looks familiar, used to see similar loaded with coke from South Wales back to West Midlands in 70s.Just can’t recall their name unless it was C H Jones or something like it.
C H Jones was the company which set up Keyfuels. I had an interesting day in the County Court with them in the early 90s - it cost them an awful lot of money, including all costs awarded against them.

Yes that is the same company Chris, when they did the haulage I think they subbed a lot of work out to owner drivers but that was a bit before my time and the wrong side of the M6 to me!!
Did Wyvern Cargo used to do groupage freight to and from the Channel Islands? Seem to remember in the early 90,s doing a bit of agency work for Team Hawk out of Newcastle and it was a regular backload for them out of Poole with the couple of times i loaded from there with tomatoes.

The Mandator may have been one of GKN Steelstock from Oldbury and the ERF tipper could be a C H Jones but Cookie 1 will be your man for that one!
Thanks for the possible names Pete.

As already stated, Martins were from Corsham and ran tippers ,flats and block grabs. They used to do a lot of work out of Bradstone, South Cerney and were a very old established company.
Thanks “Suedehead”

and forth to the Channel Islands.

Cawley’s mainly run volvo’s and Scania’s now Dean predominantly on waste, I used to use them a lot when I was at Smiths, good young bloke in the transport office called Guy iirc. They used to take scrap down to London in bulkers and rubbish back up to Shanks in either brogborough or Stewartby landfills. They also have another depot in Wellingborough and Northampton with quite a few skip lorries also a few tankers and curtainsiders on hazardous waste. Don’t see so many around as I used to, maybe due to Mick George Haulage moving into the area, there vehicles are like flies around Bedford and Milton Keynes nowadays. Fast becoming the Eddie Stobart of muck away and waste disposal. Over 100 lorries last I heard but I do have to say they are kept immaculate and very new motors.
I stand corrected, just googled them out of interest, Mick George currently employs over 1000 people and operates over 450 vehicles from 40 depots.
Dean Harline were from Southampton a predecessor of Harris Transport run by Colin Harris RIP, Buzzer.
Hi Dean
yes, looks the right colour for an ex Drinkwater Sabey.Ugly bloody thing though, much prefer the council Foden roll on off.
The Hales compactor trailer was on "Tomorrows World ’ with Raymond Baxter when it was new.
It was hauled by a Foden S40/1 with a Leyland 680 Power Plus.
