Hi Dean. It is a Coldstream Volvo FL10. Coldstream was part of NFT at one point and handled bulk milk work within the Northern Foods Grouo. It was split away from NFT in 1995 and given the name Coldstream Distribution and concentrated on milk tanker work.

Restored a few years ago by Maurice Fearn who drove for Tilcon (he had the first new halfcab Foden tipper at our quarry ) and later Barlow and Hodge. He is also fellow vintage club member.

Pete.

Thanks for the comments and pic Pete !

Yes I do a few events with Maurice and have to confess that I have actually sat in that, don’t tell DeanB though! He made a good job of it, I reckon that there were a lot of hours and few rolls of MIG wire involved in repairing the cab though! Now if he had chosen to restore a Foden he could probably have got away with just a pack of Isopon!

Pete.

        At last Pete,i knew you were secretly an F88 “LOVER”

m.a.n rules:

Hi Dean,
Richard Gary Ford are from Garretts Green in Birmingham and Kiely Bros are also from Birmingham. The Scania with the container on may be a Roadways motor?

Amazing how many companies are from your neck of the woods Pete ! Thanks for the info chap.

Good stuff chap, thanks for the comments.

Just for you Dean, taken from the web and no I wasn’t that impressed as to me the driving position seemed rather cramped? He made a good job of it though, as he has with all his other restored trucks.

Pete.

Pete.

Next time you see Maurice ask him how he enjoyed Starmix Xmas party in 1986 ? He and mrs Fearn got a little full of Xmas spirit and their youngest daughter was born in September . I haven’t seen him for a long time , but I always remind him .

I haven’t seen him for twelve months Dave as we have had no club meetings, and goodness knows when I will see him again the way things are going? He has rejoined our vintage club though. Denzil Goodwin’s lad Neil sometimes drives that Volvo to distance events for him and Maurice takes his classic Land Rover on a trailer behind the motorhome.

I’m sure Maurice bought that Comet off a friend of mine, it has a rare Albion hub reduction axle!

Still think those old 88/89s look good. :sunglasses:
When I first started as a kid, I used to dream of driving a one…arm out of window shades on in full poser mode  , never ever got one,.had to make do with starting with a TK instead.
Did manage to get the F7 and the F10 later on though.

I think that Maurice later put an Eaton two speed axle under it as it was rather slow on Motorways. He definately fitted it with power steering as well.
I was at the steel mill when he bought the steel for the breakdown crane in the body.

Hi Pete,
It may of been the rigid flat bed that Maurice owns, funny enough he has just popped up on FB so I’ve asked him! It was a fair few years ago that I asked him at Llandudno about that axle and I can’t remember which one of the LAD cabs it was fitted to!

Blimey Pete, I didn’t realise they even had the technology to access the internet up there in ‘Nanny Goat Territory’ so things must be looking up for them! I haven’t encountered him on FB yet though.

We have had a variety of A.J.Bull’s motors on here.

They were back and forth all day long queing from 4.00am at shanks with all the waste from London. Iirc they were expected to do 3 loads per day but if they squeezed a 4th load in they were rewarded handsomely. Mainly 6x4 Foden artics with high cube push out trailers, always a very smartly kept fleet.

DEANB:

beegee:
Apologies if I’ve missed them, but I’ve not seen any photos of a single seat cab vehicle (i.e. no passenger side at all to the cab) possibly from the ‘80s.

I have in my mind that they were 8 wheelers(?) and possibly owned by ARC/Amey Roadstone (or a similar operator?)

Nor can I recall why they were built that way.

Does anyone remember them?

Yes “beegee” you have definately missed them chap, been a fair bit about the half cab Fodens on here.

Dean, brilliant, absolutely brilliant, thank you. (sorry for the late thank-you, getting over an eye op and not been feeling/seeing it for the last few days).

I’d spent hours going through various threads (especially the Middle East ones) and suddenly realised I’d not seen any reference to these vehicles and didn’t know what to search for (Ok, now I know – half cab!). I was beginning to doubt my memory.

I’m afraid I can’t offer any real meaningful first-hand experience or pictures to the thread in return. I spent the 70’s and 80’s in small vans (Morris Minor, Viva HA, Ital, Maestro), then the 90’s onward driving a keyboard. Unlike my dad who spent virtually all his working life on the road and had tails to tell, although only a couple of photos.

Thanks again,
Brian.
