Regarding the Walk Thru brochure: those chassis/cab versions were unusual with having ‘gate fold’ cab doors. Davenports the brewers had some I believe. I think the ones with the protruding grille had the diesel engine, the petrol models (at least the first versions) had a flat front? They all had a large handbrake lever mounted on the left of the steering column which helped with across cab access. Like the BMC LD range a ‘drivers seat was standard’ meaning there was no passenger seat. I spent many hours sitting on a LD wheel arch and facing backwards, not the most comfortable position to travel in but at least with the LD it made engine removal easier without a seat as it had to come out through the passenger door!

Pete.

Looks like Bedford built a similar looking van which i assume was also a walk thru ?

Bedford also offered some folding doors, dont know if they caught on.(1976)

The fancy doors never took off! I wonder how many were actually sold? I have never seen one. Did anybody?

We had one at W.H.Allens, was a dropside which they used for the internal transport, no idea if it was ever used for normal work when it was new.

Messing about as usual “coomsey”  What make is the dozer chap ? :unamused:
Komatsu’s version of the D8 mid 80s. Has it happens Dean I WAS messing around, I"found" the rock so pushed it down to the loading shovel, it turned out it was too large for the machine,as was pointed out by the operator Harry
" WHAT THE F**K ARE EXPECTING ME TO DO WITH THAT ?" I’m pushing it back where I found it n then scarpering
One below was my usual mount, far n away a better tool. Cheers Coomsey

Hi Dean, The Greenalls ERF was a brewery lorry. Greenalls was formerly called Greenall Whitley, originally from
St Helens, and in later years from Warrington. The Highfield Haulage Volvo reminded me of a transport company
from Pemberton in Wigan, also called Highfield Haulage. The blue Ford Thames Trader takes me back to 1961 when
our local gas company…North Western Gas Board began to replace the bonneted Ford Thames with Ford Thames Traders
in rigid and artic form. The artic Thames Traders were fitted with Scammell Hitch couplings, and pulled 25ft flat trailers
for the delivery of bagged coke to houses, there was also 25ft tipper trailers for coke deliveries in bulk. The blue Ford
Thames Trader above has reg number 5010 NC, a Manchester number, the Gas Board Thames Trader artics also had reg
numbers, **** NC, so it leaves me wondering, is the blue Thames Trader ex North Western Gas Board ■■ I have attached
a picture of one of the 1961/62 Thames Traders, seen in Liverpool. NMP.

Cheers, Ray.

There was (still is maybe?) a White Rose Transport in Doncaster that had powder tankers but theirs were red so probably a different company?

Restored a few years ago by Maurice Fearn who drove for Tilcon (he had the first new halfcab Foden tipper at our quarry ) and later Barlow and Hodge. He is also fellow vintage club member.

Yes I do a few events with Maurice and have to confess that I have actually sat in that, don’t tell DeanB though! He made a good job of it, I reckon that there were a lot of hours and few rolls of MIG wire involved in repairing the cab though! Now if he had chosen to restore a Foden he could probably have got away with just a pack of Isopon!
