Great thread Dean/Paul. Lets all hope this glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel shines bright.

JA Cox were / are from the Hull area. IIRC they were also farmers. There was a Cox from Hull used to buy store cattle at Hexham every Friday and I think they were all the same family.

Atkinson looks a bit like an old Killingbeck motor to me ■■

Ahem…

You’re right, and it has been featured and discussed here before!

Regarding this Atkinson, you are right it did at one time come into the service of John Killingbeck and became a Chinese six and given a title of Buccaneer.

This picture was taken at the Tyne Tees run in 2018 where G Dodds of Thirsk had it in Preservation, although IIRC it has now moved on to another person for preservation.

This was new to a gentleman called Albert Vaughan of Haverfordwest, and who ran it as a flat. After a life on the fairground, and being painted in a brighter cream and maroon livery later on, it was finally scrapped in the last few years, I think in East Lancashire.

Abacus Logistics are from Southampton (Eling Wharf at Totton, if my ageing memory serves me right), and were one of the hauliers that I took on to work directly for MOL during my time as head of logistics there. I think we probably started using them around 2006/7.

Hi all,
Thanks for sharing more great photos. Richard Eddolls and his son Shane still run tippers. They are from Cricklade near Swindon. They also have some stunning Peterbilt’s and have restored an F10 into these colours from the old days… .

I will have a word with Paul and see if Yeomans had a depot in the Poole area. Alot of the pics by the roundabout that have featured
alot of muck away tippers, cement mixers and brick carrying lorries is by an industrial estate. I think there was a Tarmac plant there. If they
were Yeomans motors i would have thought they would have been sign written Daz ? :unamused:

Heres an AEC thats also blue on the rounabout.

Its a shame so may hauliers have packed up for one reason or another. As Paul Gee keep’s telling me, as i dont keep up with the modern stuff the
larger companies like Wincanton,Gregory’s etc are constantly buying up smaller companies. :frowning:

Hey Andrew, isn’t Lye Spencer have a drop in Southall, opposite Heathrow?, they had Mercs at that site…or are my grey cells making this up…

They always used to sign your notes, “marked with white rust”, one of Shone’s told them they were racist :open_mouth: , on Friday always had a 12 o clock deadline, but we still stopped at Tern Hill on the way down!!!
