Thanks for posting. Interesting to look through. I wonder how the Thornycroft rated along side other popular 8 wheelers of the day? Some of the cabs look smart. It reads that the marque had some upto date features with assisted steering and effective brakes.

Think it says Multi Serv on the door of the ERF. Looks like a steel load.

Dont think we have had a Crisp Malting Group motor on before, anyone know where they are from ■■

I believe they are from Norfolk but I’ve been racking my brains as seem to recall seeing their motors parked up near Bury StEdmunds but could be wrong. It was bugging me so found this to confirm, Fakenham Norfolk.

Thanks for the comments “Kempston” Great pic, looks like they run a very tidy fleet.

240 Gardner:
“robthedog”
Not a lot of tread on the ERF front tyre

Very eagle-eyed! Considering its age at the time of the photo, I think it may possibly have been a yard shunter

Hello Pete, Reading the test they seemed very impressed with it and it all seems very positive. Like you say it featured some upto date
features that no other 8 wheeler at the time had according to the article. I think i have one for the Leyland Octopus which i will pop on.

I have updated that post as somehow i missed off the last page so you may want to read the last page… :unamused:

Hello, Definitely a Multi Serv outfit. Had a few of those ERF’s when i worked there the fleet eventually becoming all MAN.
When I started there in 1995 it was Faber Prest Steel Distribution then Multi Serv , when I retired from there in 2011 it was Harsco Logistics. Note the Faber Prest fleet number on the trailer. Great stuff as always.
Regards, Allan

I`ve just read the excellent Thornycroft road test Dean , what a great read , they were taken over by ACV (AEC) in 1961 just before the lot went to Leyland

Love the Fordson furniture van. Reminds me of this one

The Leyland road test is another excellent post Dean , 32 mph flat out and they went tramping in them , i know my dad did and the cab was set up for a heater to be fitted, and the lorry was also judged on the ease of use of the spare wheel holder , brilliant

One close to home for you Dean, Buzzer.

Nice pic chap. When you look at the size of that removal truck it shows that people never had that much furniture back then
compared to today.

I remember talking to an older driver years ago and you mentioning the heater reminded me of the conversation. He said they use to tie
newspapers around there legs to try and keep warm as they either did not have heaters or if they did they were not much good.
