It’s that car again!!! I have a distinct hate of cars and street furniture that just seem to pop up at the wrong time!!!

Thanks for the pics chap,Hamilton’s are cracking looking motors.

vwvanman0:

Think it says Jones & Son on the ERF ■■

The ERF is EW & H Williams & son from Caernarfon

Thanks for the name chap !

Froggy55:
“vwvanman0” Managed it, hope you can read it.

Steve
I’m surprised to see that the Gardner 180 powered Highwayman achieves a consumption of 30 litres per 100 kms (54 gallons for 500 miles). That’s what does a modern artic on flat roads!

See brochure “Froggy55”

Hi Dean ,and thanks for the Bulmers clippings

Could be something to do with the size of the “reply” screen, I hope it’s not just my stupidity making a balls of it!!
My main recollection of Antars was on the A34 before it was all dualled, getting stuck behind them for miles!
I remember sitting in the cafe just north of the M4 and someone would come in and say,’ the army’s on the move’ !
It was a fight to get through the door!! I can’t remember the name of the cafe, but the approach from the north
was a narrow steel hill. Then you had Newbury to contend with. Regards Kev.

Don’t throw your toys out of the pram yet Dean… ffs… you’re starting to sound like all the other old geezers on here  … ahum, I’ll get me coat…

Nice story Kev, although not much has changed over the years, when they’re on the move, people still try to beat them as fast as they can!

The Dutch army used the Antars too, and for a long time as well if I remember correctly, they were eventually replaced by FTF’s, the one Baldwin crane hire had was a ex-Dutch army one, fitted with a V12 DD.

Interesting to note oily the 4 “track blocks” on the trailer picture 6,other pictures also show no other means of tank security, chains etc, presumably the blocks positioned inside the tracks to stop sideways movement.

I dont know why the reply screen is so large ,nothing to do with you Kev i have the same problem.

I can imagine everyone trying to get infront of them as they were normally in convoy with out riders. Used to see alot of them locally as they
were always going to and from Bovington army camp.

Hi Dean not sure if this is a Scammel or two but sure you will know while you are on that theme, Buzzer.

Find it hard to believe people dont find the Mighty Antar of intrest.

Morning Dean, I think it is an age thing, along with little experience of the things to be able to get interested.
They were built to pull heavy loads on/off road with no consideration for fuel consumption, that old Thorny engine drank it.
Unless you own an old Churchill or Centurion and have a lot of cash + over about 70 years of age you would probably look at the Scammell.
Slow, noisy, cold in the winter, hot in the summer and what I would give to have one sat in my garden is unbelievable, there, are you feeling better    Harvey

Bloke called Brian ran it. Nice chap to work for. Did a lot of casual for him. It took me a while to learn that if you didn’t dawdle back from tipping a flat-bed trailer, you’d spend the afternoon assembling tri-stacks in the yard to take down to Dover for shipping out. Never worried me. Not one for dragging the old heels. Ro
