Late 80’s, we used to ‘wrap up and put goggles on’ when we had a contract to move these bus chassis from Dennis at Guildford to Plaxton Coach bodies at Blackpool! What a horrible job that was, even the seat was a temporary one,no more than an orange box with a bit of padding, luckily I only drew the short straw once, usually drove the car to get the lads down to Guildford.
Not very long after, this was banned and we moved them on step frame trailers which were modified to carry 2 chassis at once.
Incidentally, our yard was next door to ‘CRS’ Sandbach, (F88 pictured on previous page)/

I often thought what a bloody cold job that was.But in a half type motor the Ford E83 W chassis was delivered without the rear bulkhead.
Some manufactures used to ■■■■■■■■ the rear wings on the on the chashiss i.e. Austin and Ford and probably others.

Some great Spiers motors there Dean , TGU 205M was owned by Graham (Gingerfold) ,theres a V8 amongst them too. The photo with the SAs in must have been near the end of Spiers existence , they moved to 38 tons and bought some ERFs too I think . They must have been the last firm to run AECs on a large scale , I
m not sure how many they ran but I saw them regularly on the M65 heading towards Keighley in West Yorks. Always a great sight to see.

0Referring to the Foden half cabs a few pages back they must have been a pig to drive in that little glass bubble cab.
And some bright spark at Foden had the audacity to call it ‘A new concept in cab design’
Yes i agree Paul, with reference to it being a “new concept in cab design” as “coomsey” rightly pointed out
yesterday one of the designers was obviously a cocaine addict !

Brilliant pictures there Dean love to see the old Atki’s in action.
Only had half cab for a month but I might have preferred it to full cabs, I’ve said before most motors why would I roam about in the passenger side? Somewhere for me flask snap n ■■■■, different story when having nights out obviously. Had ten years on dumpers all half cabs no problem.
Octopus Dean, cracking motor to drive however left her ticking over to fetch me tickets brick yard S Wales came back she’d stopped n shed engine oil. Next engine 4am A38Longbridge shed her oil n ceased. Next engine not sure I moved on gaffer were wondering what I was getting up to, the two sisters of running like sewing machines. Thought it was me at the time then found out about the headless wonders reliability probs n felt a bit better

You couldn’t take them to trading standards for the advert though moomooland. Didn’t mind her ,sleeper version were a bit tight mind.

Dyfed sludge had a yard on the old road between Carmarthen and Crosshands.
There seemed to be always road works on it and vehicle incidents.
Wagons parked up trying to straighten out a load of shamrock irish peat that had settled and moved.
Love these time warp photos.
