Hi Dean,
Hope you are well?
Cracking articles and photos’ as always mate, thanks for your time spent posting them.
The Volvo is one of K.T.C edible oils based in Wednesbury West Midlands, Cheer’s PeteHi Pete
About 1979 I delivered tanker loads of Edible oil to their bottling plant at Wednesbury that was situated in an old Mill or Factory. That period I think KTC had a tautliner pulled by a Ford Transcontinental and recall they had a four wheeler Leyland as well. Found Volvo S50KTC. They have come on leaps and bounds since then and have a state of the art factory at Wednesbury and Liverpool. Think KTC Liverpool site is on the old Peerless Edible Oil plant at Dunnings Bridge Road Bootle and also situated on the old Mothers Pride Bread plant at Aintree.
Off the subject 1969 I worked for an Irish haulier Williames Transport Group pulling out of Trafford Park, we had a depot at Farrow Road Wednesbury (that does not exist anymore) believe part or near to the old site KTC building.
Cheers Kev
Hi Kev,
Sorry for the late reply, yes KTC used to be based in Friars Park Road Wednesbury and have now moved to the new plant on the Patent Shaft Ind Est, as you say they have come a long way since they ran this Guy! ( N.M.P ) Cheer’s Pete
Morning Dean,
Vesuvius as far as I’m aware are part of Foseco/Fosroc who produce products for metal casting/foundry companies, they have a plant next door to Drayton Manor Park in Tamworth, used to collect loads out of there for Clarks of Oldbury so John Smallcoal may have delivered the same pallets after they had been trunked to Bridgend! Cheer’s Pete
This could be an operator from Leicester, think they may have some 4 wheel Eurocargo box vans as well, owned by an Indian lad as it looks like the Sikh emblem on the wind deflector? Cheer’s Pete
Vesuvius started at Rowsley on what is now the site of the shopping centre opposite to Lehane Shand & Mckenzie. They were known locally as Hinckleys then became KSR. I think they are all but finished at Chesterfield, in the early 70’s they ran a f86 wagon n drag

Don’t think so names spelt different, Clark Transport, and M D’s surname at Shipley Transport is Clarke. Les

This is an interesting photo for me… William Hampton were based in Mitcham if i remember rightly but they also had a depot in Rochester Kent. The firm my dad drove for had two ex William Hampton Guy Big J8’s with Rolls Royce engines in them. Unfortunately they were very unreliable and had the Rollers taken out and replaced with ■■■■■■■ engines. Hampton’s were a big fleet back in the day but not often do you see a photo of one. Thanks for sharing the pic.
Thanks for your comments on Francis Davis and William Hampton.
Heres another one chap ! (click on once or twice)

Thanks for the info “Jenson”. I knew Transcons were big old motors but i was surprised that they were nearly a ton heavier
