J Canning Transport Limited were based o Tomlinson Road, Leyland, and ran a quite a large fleet with ICI one of it’s main customers.
J Canning of Leyland also traded under the name of Elizabethan Tankers for the bulk powder side of their business.
The Seddon Atkinson 401 tractor unit Reg No C434 KHG, in the picture above, was new to Canning’s in March 1986.
In this cracking picture one of their Leyland Mandator’s makes its way through traffic in Lewisham in May 1976.
Some nice pics and info Paul !

Trucky Mc truckface:
And a cracking photo of a Scania Metroplitan. They did not last that long with LT. Rear end body rot. Also they only had 2 forward gears. Fast and faster
. Cracking Bus. Shame the body was crap. Only one survives i believe that is with Ensign Bus in Grays and is preserved but comes out on running days and tube strike days.
A little bit about them here

Retired Old ■■■■:
Like the Weston’s Scania, Dean. Back in the day they delivered all their (excellent!) products on flat bed Commers and Karriers in similar livery. I’m enjoying a life-long love affair with Old Rosie!
You can beat cider in the summer “ROF”

“kingswinford kit”“kenfig bill”"MANTRONIC"hi Geraint and Paul ,
According to my old uncle Chivers of Brynmawr ,also had buses and were members of the Monmouth Tipping group along with Stephens and Chambers hauling slag out of Llanwern .
Does any body remember Black Rock haulage ? tippers that worked on the construction of the Heads of the Valleys road ,and they too hauled out of Dunlop Semtex ,its remarkable the feedback on South Wales hauliers on Dean and Pauls thread ! MT
Hey MT …your old uncle and my old man…should get together…what with thier combined knowledge of South Wales hauliers…and perhaps start their own thread …!! lol .
Dad can remember Black Rock haulage …they had Leyland Octopus 8 wheelers …in the pale blue Dunlop colours …Geraint.
Hi ,would either of them remember Havard Farm Haulage from Byrnmawr ? ,think they had ERFs ,hauling out of Ebbw Vale ,always wondered what happened to them ,those old boys knowledge is formidable !! regards Keith
Hi Keith, there are some Hafod Farm F88/89 and F12s on the South Wales thread. I believe it was Billy who did a lot of Middle East work. Andrew probably would have more info.
As MT said, Chivers did run coaches as did Pontlottyn Transport and Parfitts of Rhymney along with tippers.
There is a member on here Rich? whose father ran out of Llanwern slag. There was a guy in Tredegar/ Ashvale who ran a bunch of 4 wheel KM’s grey with red roofs. Curly?
Llanwern Slag also had a tip in Merthyr Tydfil.
Paul
