The Brett Group mixer; I wonder where the pic was taken? I believe they were always a Kent based concern but I wonder if they now have depots elsewhere? I used to do caravan rallies with a chap (an ex Tilcon driver in Kent actually) who became a manager at Bretts and gave me a book on the history of the company and it contained photos of many of the vehicles and drivers etc going back to the 1930’s.
Pete.

Pete, I spoke to Paul and he was on holiday at the time and he cant remember exactly where he took the pic but said it was definately somewhere in Kent.

He asked if this was another part of the Brett group or is this a completely different company ■■ We are thinking it is a different company. :unamused:

Good point mate - there’s also the Shepherd Neame Volvo, the brewery is in Faversham.
The Brett mixers used to be based at their site on the A28 between Canterbury and Chartham - I think it was called ‘Milton Quarry’, but don’t quote me on the name. A company I worked for once used to do maintenance work there.
Cheers Keith

Thanks for your comments Keith !

Hi, Bretts were (are they still about?) indeed an interesting Company , always with an immaculate fleet of tippers and mixers , I used to visit their various pits and depots in Kent and in Essex where they expanded and took over Fairlop Readymix ,they also had a large Fullers earth set up in Baulking nr Wantage .Their registered offices were in Jersey channel isles where they had a quarry and ready mix operation . I had to visit there as well . toshboy

Thanks for the info “toshboy”. Wheres the pics ■■? :unamused:

Does any body remember Black Rock haulage ? tippers that worked on the construction of the Heads of the Valleys road ,and they too hauled out of Dunlop Semtex ,its remarkable the feedback on South Wales hauliers on Dean and Pauls thread ! MT

Thanks for your comment “MT”

HI , Is this the Blackfield near to Fawley Esso refinery, thankyou – toshboy

Dean the F86 of Depcell was run by Peter Mason who started as an OD think he had a 111 Scania then expanded to a few motors he worked for Smart Freight out of Southampton on containers and Roolechat was right saying he had a yard in Belgrade Road near Swaythling. Ernie Smart ran quite a few OD’s including Mo Baker who went on to do his own work out of the docks and ran a tidy fleet of Transcon’s Cheers Buzzer

PS Ernie Smart lived in a bungalow in Lowford near me.

This was later freshened up for use by C M Varley Feeds of Darlington, but I think it was only as a yard shunter, albeit a very tidy one.

Since then, it has had a full restoration, and looks pretty damned good!

Hi Dean, The ERF looks like it could be Yorkshire Imperial Metals. They were a major manufacturer of copper pipe
and fittings, the type that you see on Central Heating Boilers and radiators. I don’t know where they were from in
Yorkshire, but they had a very large factory on the East Lancashire Road, (A580) at Kirkby, near Liverpool.
Kirkdale Haulage from Liverpool were regularly seen with loads of raw copper that came through Liverpool docks
on route to the factory, which is not there anymore, and in its place is a large brand new Marstons Pub, which I
think is called “The Copper Kettle”, Cheers. Ray.

This Leyland Octopus of Kirkdale Haulage is unloading at the Yorkshire Imperial Metals
factory on the East Lancashire Road (A580) at Kirkby near Liverpool. Before the M62 was
extended through to Queens Drive in Liverpool, the East Lancashire Road was the main
route to and from Liverpool Docks, as I am sure some of our older members will recall.

Ray Smyth.

Hi the ERF BP tanker is a Chlorine tanker all had the crash barriers fitted for safety reasons. All ours at ICI had them.Ted

Dean saw this and its the sort of thing you post so here goes, Buzzer.
