Jelliot:
Hi Dean back in those days we had 2 spares per trailer and were expected to change them ourselves… so 3 trailers = 6 tires …That trip was up to Alice … change trailers ( fresh tires ) then back to Adelaide… If we as much as look at tires now we’ll get sacked…
The Southern Forrest is about half the size of Wales ( or twice as big as Luxemburg ) loads of tracks, and logging trails that eventually just peeter out. or start going one direction, where you think your going the right way, then end up no where you’ve been before… Not one sign post either and only about 2% of it is even on Google… Some of the grading crews that do the roads are in there all week and don’t come out until Friday afternoon… There are quarries and camp sites all over the place if you know where to look… Some of the roads you can be doing 100 kph fully loaded on gravel 10 15 mins at a time other placed it’s 4 k an hour up and down very steep windy banks… getting over " The Gap " is about 1500 meters up and there are mountain ranges and lakes in there as well… If you look at a map of Tasmania it starts about 20 k’s south of Wynyard ( north coast ) comes across in a line to Deloraine ,come south to Bothwell, New Norfolk, Huonville… and everything south and west of that line is forrest… If you know what you’re doing you can go from the north to the south coast using only forrest roads…I know of trucks that work in there that have never been registered or been out the forest…
Jeff…
Thanks for the info on spare tyres. Must have been hard work with the heat in Australia changing them.
Thats what you call a forest, half the size of Wales,i would imagine people must get lost all the time and i bet
alot of those tracks look very similar,so easy to become disorienated.

That’s Corby Chilled Distribution who were taken over Innovate Logistics in 2007.
The following year in July 2008 Innovate themselves went into administration just two weeks after it was put up for sale by its parent company Eimskip.
Stobart Group Ltd and Yearsley’s later acquired the chilled and ambient goods operations of Innovate Logistics for an undisclosed sum,
Took this picture at Innovate’s Heywood depot the day after it went into administration.
Quite a number of Innovate’s Volvo’s were later sold off at auction with many, like this one, exported to Indonesia
Good stuff Paul and great pics. Remember seeing alot of innovate trucks around.

Innovate took the Malton Bacon contract off Wincanton at Maltby in 2005 and had a site at Manton Wood, Worksop.I was asked to go there and refused as it would have meant a 50 mile return trip int car, living on west side of Sheffield. So I took the money after 27 years working at Maltby. Innovate crashed not long after.
Thanks for your comments Chris.

Morning Dean,
Reid Freight are from Stoke on Trent
ERF with container on is Barry Squires from Bloxwich, still has a couple of ERF’s on the road I think but has switched to Merc’s.
Eaton Concrete Products from Cheslyn Hay near Cannock, a tiny scratch on the motor and it resulted in the sack, even the fork lifts on the yard had those “clear” rubber tyres on so they did not leave black marks on the concrete, Scania’s and Volvo’s on the fleet now, Cheer’s Pete

I’m not 100% certain but I think a company called Squires was operating late 60s in Bloxwich, but I think there was more than one with that name?

Went over a portable scale following my mate he was more overweight than I was he was waved on through and I got a ticket for 250kg over on a tridem but undergross . he gave me a ticket for a soft tire an hr after getting 8 fitted …just hit it with a hammer told me it was soft ding ding ticket (I put some air in it with my hose and he let me go,no tire guage was used just him saying it was down a little).

Second time on here then.I had this from new,TL12 and 9-speed Fuller.Made me some brass over the three years I had it.
Not me driving though,I’d left Evans in 1979 and the small Hazchem label holders for each compartment were put on after I left and anyway it’s not the usual trailer I had - plus those red wheels look rubbish,I never had them.Brakes were terrible for a start but were sorted by our fitters at Sheffield and AEC at Nottingham.Apart from that I had no problem.Loaded with 3WE 1114 which was benzene, probably for Bitmac at Llanwern or BP Baglan Bay.
