88s ALWAYS grab my attention, pal! They were the tool of choice if you were a driver, not too worried about fuel consumption.
Dean that DAF tipper was Moreyâs from Ringwood they had sand and gravel pits back in the day and went on to become DAF agents first in Ringwood then Southampton and also in Portsmouth, they service our trailers still today, Buzzer.

1Remember the advertising hoardings back in the 1970âs when they launched in the UK with just the words âNow for Britain it selfâ0Just look at those fuel prices back in the 80âs
ÂŁ1.88 for a gallon of diesel.
I think that the Elf tankers were contract vehicles, but I cannot recall who had the contract.

Somewhere lurking in back of my mind is Sucklings who had that contract Graham.

Thanks for posting the SA 401 brochure Dean! RobertThe âself adjusting clutchâ presumably meant that you adjusted it yourself, our one never did it itself!
I spent a lot of time under our 300 series six wheeler rotating the flywheel and adjusting the blooming fiddly Dana/Spicer unit with a hammer/drift/screwdriver whereas the Lipe clutches could be adjusted in just a few minutes.
Pete.
If I remember right the Lipe clutch adjustment was about half an inch
Hi dean, rosser transport run by two old men never threw anything away it would be used again ,drivers started at 3 am to be first in the queue either at Swansea dock or trostre he never bought anything new think he finished late 80,s or 90,s daibootsy would know more

Yes, officially! However some of our drivers liked their clutch to âbiteâ in different places, one liked it adjusted very tight so that the pedal was up under the steering wheel and another liked plenty of free play so that it bit just off from the floor mat. Bloody drivers, fussy sods ainât they?
Pete.

I believe the Tilcon tanker was actually based at Ballidon where I was a fitter at that time but I canât recall who drove it which is unusual for me!
Edited to say that I THINK it was driven by Ian Slater from Parwich who was taken poorly and sadly passed away a few years later either while driving or unloading. Ian had a Y reg Foden by that time though. The one in the pic appears to have been fitted with both the old bulk tank and oil tank from Ianâs earlier Foden S39, TRB 132K, which was normal back then. One tank usually served two chassis, Metalair at Sutton Bridge would have overhauled it.
Pete.
Thanks for the comments Pete !

We have had a fair few Bedford TM rigids on here.
Yeah, thanks for reminding me why I detested the âpoverty-specâ TM Dean![]()
The first I drove one was as slow as a wet Wednesday in Frinton, I couldnât see s0d-all out of it down the nearside and after a few weeks it broke down (nuffink to do wiv me guv, 'onest). Some months later the gaffer put me in a rental one (Salford Van Hire I think) that was incrementally less slow but was still a shed. The next time I was pointed at one I point-blank refused to go near it. Base-model TMâs were badly-geared, underpowered, over-hyped sheds.

Interesting brochure. I believe CW Vick also did Algeria on a contract for Lister engines. They were nothing to do with Eric Vick of Hardwyke Glos., having said which there is a picture of an Eric Vick ERF pulling a CW Vick trailer on here! Robert
I reckon Harvey may know about Moreys from Ringwood.
Good morning Dean, one and all.
Robert Morey and his brother ran tippers and the story is they got a permit to remove the old RAF Ibsley concrete runways and found gravel beneath.
Taking on a chap called Mike Adams they set up a DAF franchise called âAdams Moreyâ at Blashford just down the A338 from the air base.
The gravel bank was huge, now about 7 very large lakes.
They sold off the old depot and yard ( now a trading estate) and bought the old Leyland depot at Redbridge and old Princes depot Milbrook road.
They still have Redbridge. Buzzer uses it as he said.
PS: RAF Ibsley built 1940 and after 7 Uk squadrons used it USAAF took over in 1942, largest concrete base in south of England.
Bet you wished you never said out!!! Harvey

Keyes Huntsman Volvo F7
Actually from the Bowker fleet, part of the contract hire fleet provided to Keyes Huntsman of Skelmersdale for over 20 years.
This was one of a pair of F7s, and which had replaced F86s with the same trailers. When the weights went up to 38 tonnes, the F7s were returned to the dgeneral haulage fleet, and re-plated for 36.6 tonnes, and were replaced by a pair of specially built F6 tractors. At that time, you could buy a sleeper-cabbed F6 but not as a tractor, so they were built as rigids and cut down when brand new

I am sure Micky Palmer is driving the rockwool erf that had just had the jennings sleeper added.
He started on a rigid DAF 2100 box van which was 1 of 2 to arrive ex contracts and truck member Geoff54 had the other one.
