Ansa DAF. You must get a fair bit of damage to vehicles like vans on the top due to trees etc. It seems these
days that the councils dont do much cutting back of branches /bushes etc on the sides of busy A roads.9

Thanks for posting the SA 401 brochure Dean! Robert

Hi smallcoal, left the buses '62 and first job on car delivery was with Dealers Deliveries at Cowley on trade plates, that was some learning curve, being sent to the far corners of the map and then hitching back, some very unusual lifts that took me through the bad winter of early '63. Same year Progressive were opening a depot at Cowley and looking for drivers and being ex bus no problem. Happy days yes

Hi Dean, Could you please post the Warburton and Wm. Gaskell pictures on the Wigan thread,
and the Wm. Rainford picture on the Liverpool thread. I have tried to do it, but my digital and
techno skills are rather limited.
Thank you Dean, Ray.

The “self adjusting clutch” presumably meant that you adjusted it yourself, our one never did it itself! I spent a lot of time under our 300 series six wheeler rotating the flywheel and adjusting the blooming fiddly Dana/Spicer unit with a hammer/drift/screwdriver whereas the Lipe clutches could be adjusted in just a few minutes.
Pete.

Morning Dean, some pics of 401,s some courtesy of Ron ,Jr. ran a lot of seddon,s joints had some and Owens had a load ,wm Morgan had a couplecourtesy of cc ,cracking pics as always
The last shot of William Morgan ,was with a Hay on Wye driver ,before that he drove a Marathon ,in earlier years Hay was a change over point ,between Pressed Steel and the Midlands .
Morgans had about 10 Sedatks ,but always remembered for thier Borderers , as they hauled themselves up the Crai .
DEAN ,some great stuff ,would Paul have taken shots of Joseph (Jonah) Jones also of Ystradgynlais ,he had ERFs ,and like Morgans an immaculate fleet ? MT

Thank you Dean Dai will like the Foden and the Rockwool ERF ,Brs .
Keep em coming. You n Pauls work is much appreciated cheers Paul
I believe the Tilcon tanker was actually based at Ballidon where I was a fitter at that time but I can’t recall who drove it which is unusual for me!
Edited to say that I THINK it was driven by Ian Slater from Parwich who was taken poorly and sadly passed away a few years later either while driving or unloading. Ian had a Y reg Foden by that time though. The one in the pic appears to have been fitted with both the old bulk tank and oil tank from Ian’s earlier Foden S39, TRB 132K, which was normal back then. One tank usually served two chassis, Metalair at Sutton Bridge would have overhauled it.
Pete.

Yeah, thanks for reminding me why I detested the “poverty-spec” TM Dean
The first I drove one was as slow as a wet Wednesday in Frinton, I couldn’t see s0d-all out of it down the nearside and after a few weeks it broke down (nuffink to do wiv me guv, 'onest ). Some months later the gaffer put me in a rental one (Salford Van Hire I think) that was incrementally less slow but was still a shed. The next time I was pointed at one I point-blank refused to go near it. Base-model TM’s were badly-geared, underpowered, over-hyped sheds.
