This Seddon Atkinson is in Shamrock Express livery which was operated by Currie Contracts in Heywood.
They went under the Shamrock Express name for all of their Irish work.
The BigJ has an Isle of Man reg plate,MAN and MN are both Manx.
I canāt see the name on the door which is a shame. However a friend of mine thinks it is one of A Craines from Ronague near the Round Table,up int tāhills, which is the rough equivalent of Stoney Middleton and Eyam in Derbyshire, being a quarrying area and an ex lead mining area.

They had seven new 200 series S/A on the Irish route all having problems with the International engines, LIA1618,1619,1620,1621,1623,1624 & the most troubled one MIA399, which I think had at least three engines under warranty in its first year. The breakdowns & engine failures I believe led the parent company H.Currie & Sons of Heywood to put Shamrock Express into voluntary liquidation around 1979/80.

Iām surprised at that Dave, we had four āTā reg ones on tipper work (three 200ās and one 300) and the engines were never touched. Didnāt rate the rest of the vehicle much though despite it winning Truck of the Year but they were reliable!
Pete.

Hi Pete,
I was very young and green back then, the green bit has never changed, the cause of the International engine failures come clearer to me much later in my working life, looking back at the way the
engines had failed I believe they must have been allowed to over rev to cause such destruction, all the drivers were on job and finish and it always seemed to be the rush on merchants who had the
major problems.
I went out to a broken down vehicle one night just over the summit of Shap on the M6, the driver had reported a knock and a total loss of power, when the cab was tilted I could see right through the block, the
engine had six holes down both sides of the block & a load of scrap in the sump area, I left that job for Scotts to sort out, I think the engines must have had a small window of tolerance from their goverened rev
limit setting to self/aided destruction.
I can not remember doing any repairs apart from injection pumps which would pressurise the fuel tank & force fuel out of the vent in the filler cap after a couple hours of trunking, never had to do a head gasket but
changed loads of engines under warranty, even when the vehicles were in their second year, S/A were very good at supplying engines direct to the Heywood depot so they could be trunked up at worst the
next night after a failure had occurred, the old units went back to S/A as complete & untouched for investigation.

Mercedes is 21st Century Transport.
Daf pulling the Amoric trailer looks like Dave Robbins.
Dodge looks to be a Dunlopillo unit as you can just see the logo on the door. Whether in those days it was run by Dunlop or a logistics company as we now know them as i donāt know.

You werenāt thinking of Nugentās of Brock? They ran Crusaders, but I donāt think that this is one of them though

I don;t know enough about ERFs to recognise whatās beneath the ski, but it doesnāt look very Foden-ish to me

Hi DEAN ,the FIAT could well be Taylors of Martley very similar colours and they did have that sort of thing .
If so it would have been hauling out of Metal box Neath (they did most of the work out of Eaglesbush) and thier was aMetal box plant in Worcester .
Excellent shot of Caswells F88 ! regards Keith

Looks like they have cobbled it together to move long lengths of steel around the works.

Hi Dennis,
A big Sweeney fan then judging by that Granada! One of the most comfortable cars Iāve travelled in to be fair,
