Ian was fit and well last time I spoke to him , I first met him at Truckfest Peterborough where he was showing the Transcont. ,The Transcont was originally with Hoovers in Merthyr from where Ian bought her , I can remember Ian bringing her in and out of Llanwern steelworks , he had the Transcont on bulk tipper work , replaced it with an ERF which itself in turn for a short while was parked up while the Transcont returned to work , Ian then took on another driver so both lorries returned to work. The ERF was replaced by a Volvo Fl and the Transcont was retired to attend shows. The Volvo was replaced by an Iveco which if my memory is correct was replaced by a Daf 95 xf ?
The Transcont passed into my ownership and was shown over a few years,is still in existence however now awaits a long over due strip down and rebuild. When I settle into my new home I will sort out some photos and have a go at putting them on here.
Tony

8K & S J Harvey & Sons Ltd of Old Hall Street Farnworth Nr Bolton are still very much in business today.
The company was formed by managing director Ken Harvey in the recession hit 1980’s.In later years this Austrian built Stery 19S31 6x2 tractor unit Reg No J840 CNW was added to the fleet.
It was originally supplied new in 1991 to Chris Brearley International of Brighouse by local Steyr agents Premier Commercials of Ossett West Yorkshire.
Fitted with an Eaton twin-splitter gearbox, lifting rear axle and high top sleeper cab it was purchased second hand off Chris Brearley by Ken Harvey.
After arriving at Harvey’s the lifting rear axle was completely rebuilt by Ken himself before he put it on the road.
Pictured above in 1995, parked in the depot at Farnworth, it had just returned from Bradford after collecting a load of paper which was destined for Italy. Thanks for all the info and photos Paul ,proper job !
I see they changed colour scheme at sometime.
I dont know anything about those Steyrs but i dont remember seeing many of them .Heres a bit about them.

You’ve made me go all unnecessary, Dean. A real treat reading this account. Good bloke, Tony Knowles- doing more than his share of keeping some of our iconic vehicles looking as good as they were back in the day.
Perfectly understandable chap !

Hi John. Graham Louder was based in Rumney, Cardiff close to the old TJE Price yard. My mates father worked for him for many years. Iirc the Steyrs were supplied by Walls and he had some MANs off them as well. Going back a while now!
Brian Kellow commercials of Bristol was also a Steyr dealer.

Morning Dean,
Great set of pics as usual,
The Scammell was owned by Joe Davies from Wolverhampton, 2nd pic is what he used to pull round the shows with her, 28 mph top speed!
Joe replaced the Scammell with an ERF a series which is being currently restored, Joe sadly passed away 2/3 years ago.
Morning dean ,the tanker is thompsons of Devon ,the asw steyers I don’t know how long they were going for some good pics today ,a few scary ones coming round the bend looks like they will topple

A few companies ran Steyr tractor units including W.H. Malcolm who ran about ten of them.

Drove a few of those back in the day we always had plenty of Salford Van Hire Volvo’s and DAF’s in the depot at Middleton at peak.
Today Salford Van Hire are one of the biggest single purchasers of commercial vehicles in the country
who also own one of the largest contract hire fleets,
