One constituent part of the Texaco company in the UK as it is seen in these photos has its origins dating back to 1916, when the Texas Oil Company opened a British subsidiary to market and sell lubricating oils, wax, and asphalt. These lubricants gained a reputation for high quality. It adapted the Texaco name in the UK in 1959. The other company in the make up of Texaco as we know it today was Trinidad Leaseholds which refined the light crude oil of the Caribbean area into high quality petrol and aviation spirit, vital to the RAF in WW2. Trinidad Leaseholds purchased the UK fuels distributor Burt, Boulton, and Hayward in the 1930s, whose brand name was Regent. Regent was again a brand noted for high quality fuel. in 1947 Texas and Leaseholds agreed to a joint marketing venture under the Regent brand. The US company Caltex then bought Texas Oil Company’s British business. After other complicated joint arrangements and mergers the Regent brand was discontinued in 1967 with all sales outlets and marketing being re-branded as Texaco. Regent used predominantly AECs for its transport needs, and this continued in Texaco days, with AEC Mandators being used in very large numbers, and so through to Marathons and Roadtrains.

Just jumping in on Radio 2, anybody remember Colin Berry who pre-dated Terry Wogan. I think I remember him doing the daily weather reports that took an age but had a nice ‘catchy’ tune playing in the background - I can still hear it now after all these years!

Hi Pennineman, Yes, I remember Colin Berry, Colin and Terry and a few others used to have an annual day trip to
the “Mid Herts Golf Club”, I don’t know if much golf was played, but I believe there was a well stocked Bar.
Another co-presenter was John “Boggy” Marsh, who Terry likened Boggy to John of the “John and Janet” stories.
Janet was a pain, she was always bollocking John for wandering off and talking to that lady with ample bosoms,
Mrs. Bickerdyke. I also liked Lynn Bowles, the Traffic Totty from Cardiff, sometimes referred to as Lynn Bowels !!
She was always praising “Brains Beer” and “Clarks Pies”. Fond Memories, Regards, Ray Smyth.

Lyn Bowles finished her radio stint last Thursday they had stars from rugby and showbiz on the show Chris Evans went out and bought her the Land Rover in Peter rabbit at an auction the Janet and John are on you tube still cry with laughter at old tel and his voices and Mrs bicker duke hay up fluffy whiskers she’s from Yorkshire

Great shows, I sometimes used to think, i’m Getting paid to sit here listening to this. Good times. Don’t know if I’m looking through rose tinted glasses but those days were better than today’s, weren’t they?

Yes they were, a couple today still shine through - Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie.

If I was in the yard on a Saturday morning (and sometimes at home), I used to listen to David Symonds ‘Album Time’ on Radio 2 whilst tidying up my motor - I used to find myself getting ‘diverted’ from loading  He played a wide selection of artists but as the title says, the tracks you never got hear unless of course you had these albums. A notable moment for myself was when he played ‘Winter Wonderland’ sung by Annie Lennox who up until then, was not on my ‘Favourite’ list but ever since then I have realised what a good voice Annie has!

We have had a few of these Roadtrains on here.
