Mike Ball from Madley, Herefordshire, was a hay & straw merchant, hence the rack over the cab, to get a few more bales on!
Cheers “kmills” The rack must lift up for tilting the cab.

86 8 whlrs always stand well for me. He’s got oversize scrap on, that makes your teeth rattle when it comes out. A few loads of it n you’ve aged the body 5yr. Cocked one up Stanton steel n a girder took 2of the 3 hinges clean off the barn door, didn’t earn much that day
Can anyone make the name out on the Commer with the single axle trailer please.

Piston broke:
Hi dean Some George Taylor picsIirc something happend ? And the ERFs got sold off by auction ,then the business carried on with foreign lorries did mr Taylor die perhaps? I know you said John about the loss of premises.
My (second or third hand ) information at the time was that the rising diesel prices and stagnant container rates made the job unsustainable. I believe there was also rumblings from neighbours about nasty smelly lorries accessing the yard because it was down a relatively small urban road. There was a chap (possibly an ex driver) who bought a couple of lorries to do some of the work but he didn’t last very long, for whatever reason. I remember that he had a white Leyland Roadtrain with the interstate cab with Bedminster written on the spoiler. He was based in Taylors yard as well. I have no clue what happened to the yard. I was told that George Taylor owned everything, lock, stock and barrel - no debt, no finance - but I’m probably wrong
I assume the yard is built on now…
I passed there this month a car place was on it I go past regularly I will take pic of the yard go on google maps type in parson street bedminster go on satellite you will see how big his yard was it was in a residential area

Thanks John and Piston broke !

Dean Clevestone were from Hartlepool and at first mainly ran a tipper fleet branching out later with general haulage as from the photos. They were still operational up to a few years ago with skip hire and plant equipment also. Whether still around present day not too sure now.
Thanks for that info “jshepguis” Here’s another one !

I used to work for Taylors for a number of years, most of the above is broadly correct. It was the poor rates/rising fuels prices that did for them. With the exception of the last 3 Volvo’s, most of the Scania’s and Volvos were new to them. Bedminster had been around for a number of years before Taylor’s stopped, at least 2 of their road trains were ex Taylors, I think Bedminster packed up last year as there was an auction recently of a load of Leyland bits from their yard.
The location of the yard was always an issue, at least once we had local residents come in and complain, apparently one lady came in and said a trailer dropping off a kerb had caused a bang which made a shelf in her kitchen fall down.
I have moved away from the area but visited last year as I bought a car from the dealers at the back of the yard, the yard is used by a bus company now.

George Taylor Marathon.5
Not a motor rembered fondly, it opened the door to Seddon Atkinson to take Taylor’s business until they rusted away and Leylands briefly returned to the fleet with some roadtrains.
