DEANB:
“moomooland” Paul a Remploy motor !

Thanks for that Dean.

This Ford D Series four wheeler van Reg No CLA 360T was registered new on the 6th of February 1979.
Based at Remploy’s transport department in Oldham it was driven by the late Joe Farrell and was used mainly for transporting Lundia shelving across the country it was also equipped with a tail lift which made life a lot easier for the driver while delivering the heavy boxes of wooden shelving.
It is pictured above in 1980 opposite Victoria Station on Wilton Road London.

Another blast from the past.

Hi Dean, I think the Foden tanker is Edward Derbyshire of Liverpool, Regards, Ray Smyth.

And the blue & yellow F88 looks suspiciously like Clive Price, although not as smart as his usual lorries.

DEANB:
Van Bentum DAF. Remember reading about this fella he was a clever bloke and made his own tankers
which were extremely light.

More great pics DEANB, Henk van Bentum didn’t actually build his own silos, but he did design his own and had them built, if memory serves I think it could have been by Atcomex, this would have been in 1998/9. They were extremely light having no chassis, to tip they had three huge rams one either side also serving as landing legs and a big foot at the back in the centre. The legs were dropped to the floor taking the weihht, the driver then uncouoled the trailer moving the unit forwards only about six inches, the hydraulic and air jump pipe were all extremely long to make up for there being no chassis, the silo then tipped on the front legs pivoting on the back foot. They proved to be very unstable with several falling over whilst tipping, and were very soon withdrawn from service, all very expensive I’m sure. The trailer in the picture is also an Atcomex, but a more conventional design. Now the flat trailers which he designed several years previously were much more successful and also very light, using a frame best described as being of a bridge type design, or more unkindly as scaffolding.
